I'm still fairly new to the forum so figured I would post another new thread. I know a lot of people ask what is? So just for the fun of it here's mine. For a living I am a habitat restoration technician, I specialize in upland grassland work. So I drive a tractor collect native seed, And work prescribed burns etc.
For 13 years I've carried a spyderco police. For me I found it the best knife I can find. It opens and closes easily with gloves and will handle most cutting tasks including thin branches and up to scraping the mud out of a go-devil engine. I also used it to slice through a busted argo drive belt.I like the weight of it as I know it's in my pocket and I've never torn up a pair pants with the clip. As a plus I even got it used from stabman so never had to pay retail. After all these years there is a little bit of side to side play abd it's very reliable.

It goes to work with me every day, but the rest of the time its variety.

Small branches and a belt? Nope. Won't do.

You need a Medford or a Direware for those sorts of heavy tasks.

I appreciate the suggestion but I'm a working man with a boy and a mortgage.
I like my knives but I have other hobbys too. The police although I don't love the name has done everything I needed to. If anyone wants to lend me a pricey blade i will review it...;)

Old western aphorism, "Beware the man with only one gun. He probably knows how to shoot it darn well."
Same holds with a working man with one knife.
I have no argument with your choice.

This man speaks truth.

I've been using my ZT 0550 for about 4 years or longer (lost track) and it's been through thick and thin!

Two questions for Ian:

1. How can you be new for almost 10 years?

2. That job you have, how do you like it? Does it pay well? It looks like it's right up my alley (I volunteer and/or work the trails, clearing, etc).

Good story, Ian. Nothing like length of service to determine one's favorite knife.

I'm not a Spyderco fan but the Police is one of 4 or 5 of their models I'd consider owning. May it give you many more years...

Indeed. Much wisdom there.

The only thing I don't like about Spydercos is pretty much the same thing everybody who doesn't care for Spydercos doesn't like . . . the hole in the blade. But like most folks, once I used the hole to open a Spyderco folder, I was hooked.

I think you made a fine choice that particular configuration of the police model will hold up for as long as you care to use it.

1. Wow time files, yes I joined in 06 but ive only made 5 posts and only started this one, to me that's pretty new.

2. The job is great, pay is reasonable to the cost of living where I am. There were some major cut backs here in Ontario to Natural Resources
so finding full time steady work as a technician is hard and I am very glad to be where im working. We are a not for profit incorporated body.

As for the one knife, Ive got 5 or 6 more that I carry after work but I rely on that one all day.

i love medford knives but its true that you'd be surprised what some knives can accomplish when all you have to work with is said item. keep in mind in canadian funds and praetorian T is about 1000$ and new police model is 130$. love ontario woods man keep givener. toba man here.

These are mine - both Enduras - the serrated is on me in the woods (along with a fixed blade) but the plain blade with the G10 scales is my true EDC. Goes to work with me every day. Good for me.

Good for you to have found your perfect EDC too. My Endura needs another 6 years before it catches up with your Police for reliability. I am completely confident that it will make it
