My move away from "pimped" knives

I would have joined the pimped knife game, but my first experience left me sour. Some vetted knifemaker scammed everyone he worked with over a 2-3 month period at the end of 2010 and disappeared.

Since then, the stock Emersons have grown on me, though my CQC7AW has a low ride Ti clip. Takes a bit of practice getting used to wave it differently, but carrying it doesn't scream knife as loudly as the factory clip on my SOCFK B.

So Ernest thinks a Titanium framelock / G10 non-lock scale design is a viable setup on a CQC-7 and CQC-12 but not on other models? Sorry, that too me isn't exactly logical. Me personally, I wanted that option but am not a fan of the 12's blade or the 7's grip. I do however like the Horseman VERY much (5 and counting so far), and I must say, everything that makes it a great EDC is enhanced further IMHO by the "HD-style" Ti/G10 scale combo. Few if any love Emerson's more than I do, and Ernie is THE MAN afaic, but that doesn't mean an idea (or execution) is only good if it comes from his factory that way.

100% in agreement. When I got my first Emerson, I based the choice on ergonomics and feel and chose the CQC10 moving forward. I carried it for a bit, but being a big fan of Ti framelocks, I always went to my Speedform, Ti frankenmilitary, ZT5xx's, a Horton custom, SMF, even a sebenza. In other words, i had a ton of other knives that I chose to carry over the 10 despite being the best Emerson I owned. Then I got it converted into a framelock, and the modification became a game changer. I carried it much more after being customized, and pretty much has a permanent spot in my top 5 favorite knives to carry, 2 of which are Emerson framelock conversions.

fwiw- Years ago, I called EKI and spoke with Darrel about a Emerson Framelock and he told me that Ernest said that the framelock was Chris Reeves bag, not his. Big respect, Ernest. But man, we're glad Ernest changed his mind.

Yep.^
I like how Sal Glesser calls the framelock the R.I.L.
Thank you Michael and Chris.

Interesting.
I understand what Al is saying as I understand OM's point. I'd love to see a CQC-13 RIL, aka, framelock.
Threads like this keep things in Knifeland interesting.

Agreed on all points--otherwise stock is just fine for me. But I have to admit, the pimped ones look great!

I think gooytek and I could start a thread called, "My Move Toward Pimped Emersons!"
I don't think that there is anything wrong with a stock Emerson, but I feel when you have the knife pimped the way you want it, it makes it more "yours". I find myself more drawn to pimped Emersons, even if they were pimped for someone else. If the pimp job is good, they usually sell pretty fast in the exchange.

Speaking of pimping. I asked Eric to make me a rear spacer for my HD7 that fills in the whole pommel. I have had that exposed knife point poking holes my pockets.
