I have been blessed to receive a nice early xmas gift from my brother, an fk2. I have yet to hold it as it is on it’s way still. Judging by the enthusiasm and loyalty here, I am sure it will be an addiction soon enough. Should I put a line item in my monthly budget for CPK? I hope you will all accept me into the club and it is good to be here.

You are in for a treat, my friend! No knife I have ever held feels more a part of my arm, wrist and hand than the FK2. It pops out of the kydex and just welds itself to your hand. I'm super pumped that you are super pumped about it! And I am glad I could be of assistance in your joining this amazing club! I can use some of the $ to start paying down what I owe my buddy for spotting me on the K18 sword!

To answer your question of making a line item for CPK, it might be a good idea to do this. Next year will bring a couple of new models along with his much anticipated folder. Enjoy the ride, you are in for a fun one for sure!;)

Welcome Worldwatcher :)

Although I may sound very biassed when I use the superlative the GREATEST but I have great data to back me up ;) At the expense of making some of BF.com's other venerable smaller knife-makers a bit jelly, Nathan/Jo & Crew make the BEST bang for the buck (value/price) knives for a totally hands-on team of knife makers.

The subforum itself is very entertaining and alone with the price of the admission (no purchase necessary). No table rousers, no flame throwers and no big mouths! A couple of gabby/yappy sorts who tend to blab on about nonsensical and unrelated issues like cars & movies to watch, while probably on high sugar (donuts?) induced delirium, but mostly harmless lunacy due to older age and too much time :D

ETA: Yes, set a budget and go for it. Enjoy your recently gifted FK2

Welcome!! It has been a lot of fun watching the continued growth and success of such an amazing company and group of people!!!

As others have said, definitely create a savings plan for both past and future offers.

My group of knives have grown and shrunk as I try to dial in my priorities. As much as I hate having to sometimes give a knife up, I love taking part in introducing someone else to such a great blade / company!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Watched some older cpk videos on youtube to get ready. I have never seen such universal praise for knives or a company. Only complaint I have seen in my research is the inability to get one. In this passionate and emotional hobby we have it is very rare indeed to not have naysayers. Speaks volumes about cpk. I will be proud to own and USE my fk2. No safe queen for me. I do however think ill skip the cinder block edge test;)

Welcome to the family!

As Matty/Casinostocks has mentioned, there really aren't any other knifemakers out there who can match (much less beat) the thoroughly Performance oriented knives for the price.

I've posted before in other threads about this, but there are many knifemakers who focus on aesthetics (nothing wrong with that). There are knifemakers who've got some steels with good durability/performance etc.

But when that FK2 arrives, you'll really 'get it'. Carothers Performance Knives really takes pride in fine tuning all aspects of the Performance of their knives. Everything from the blade shape and grind angles, to fine tuning the heat treat for both toughness AND edge retention, to the handle ergonomics for comfortable use in a variety of positions and various hand sizes etc.

I've been a knife nut since I was a kid. Over the decades, I've handled and used many, many knives. Even with knives from the same maker, I've encountered some that had comfortable handles, and some knife handles that were just not well thought out.

When you get hooked and start amassing a collection of CPKs, you realize there's not a crappy handled CPK, because that's just one of the many aspects that Nathan focuses on fine tuning.

Likewise, especially for folks who actually use their knives, you realize that the edge geometry and heat treat, combines to provide a combination of cutting performance and toughness that you're going to be hardpressed to find elsewhere.

Then when you learn to appreciate all those facets, you'll realize as I did, that there are a few other knifemakers who do focus on the performance aspects of their knives, with their personal take on things... and their knives tend to cost 3X as much or more.

To the average Joe, CPKs aren't cheap, but when you really start looking into any other offerings that focus this much on performance, for knives that you could use all your life, then pass down to your kids, grandkids and so on, you realize that CPK's price to performance is incredible.

Congrats Worldwatcher on the FK2  I'am also a new comer to the CPK Family. So far I have an MC ,UF and an FK2 . I'am very pleased with the Workmanship and Quality of these Knifes is Amazing . Been using the FK2 and truly digging it  I'am sure you will too :) hopefully soon will be putting the MC to some good use .

This is exactly what drew me to cpk, it is a high qualty tool. It was designed to do a job and do it very well. I put a lot of value in that. If the ergos are great and looks pretty cool too, well icing on the cake. Thank you for this post! These pics are great, I will definitely put some up when mine arrives.

Welcome my friend. I am new to the CPK subforum community as well. Great group of people . My first was an FK2 and it’s a perfect knife. In fact I like it so much I have three with two on preorder. Long story short I am up to ten CPKs in a little over two months. I had to sell my can opener but my CPK can open my Spaghettio’s so dinner is all set. Now to resist the temptation of buying the UF in AECM with sharpened tip in the BST section. Buy it before I do pulease.

I am a terrible influence on you Adam, I know, but that's a terrific arrangement of the original UF. In fact, I have one preordered just like that. Now try to resist that as residence is futile :p
