What a great little knife! I just can't help but love this little guy, with it's heavy duty frame and solid lockup. The rosewood scales have a 3 dimensional shimmer to the wood and the ATS-34 blade was every bit as sharp as any of my Spyderco blades. Throw in a burgundy leather sheath and you have a package that is next to impossible to beat. Of course I am driving my wife crazy with the constant snap/click of opening and closing the knife - music to my ears. ;)

Anyway, if you haven't guessed yet, I highly recommend this knife to anyone who wants quality steel and construction, in a beautifully designed package.

APF, I would really like to see a pic of your 271. My scales or okay, I guess, but your's sound pretty cool.

As for the clicking and the wife. That is funny. One night I was flipping open the 298GY again and again while she was asleep. She woke up and just looked at me like she thought I was nuts. I stopped.

Linerlock clicking bothers my wife too!

And she's very cool with my knife collecting.

Heh...sometimes women just don't understand. :p

Here are a few pics. Sorry about the crappy color. I had to do these under fluorescent light. I hope the luminous nature of the wood comes through.

I have two Alphas, the basic one with birchwood scales and the one with upgrade steel and camo scales.

Surprisingly, the birchwood one is better in terms of fit&finish and lockup,VERY tight, it's a favourite EDC of mine, very useful small knife that's an across the board worker.

The camo Alpha has a very weak lock-up, frankly I don't trust it as it hardly moves enough to lock the knife open, in contrast to the birchwood model.

I don't have the rosewood one (like the look of that sheath I must say) but my rather negative exp of the rosewood version of its big brother, the Alpha Hunter has made me a bit wary.(defective scales)

If you get a good Alpha Dorado, then I would rank it as a very serious EDC indeed.

The Dorado is one of my favorites. Locks up tight as can be, opens smooth. It's one of the few I have that can knock the 2-dot 112 from my pocket for any length of time. It goes on the list of "most underrated" imo. I did have an issue with the sheath at first (the leather one) but after about 10 minutes of wet-forming it is excellent as well.

A.P.F.,
Thanks for the pics. Scales look good. Better than mine.
My 270 scales (Birchwood) are nicer, IMO, than my Rosie 271.

Maybe I'll swap them out. Any opinions from my fellow Buckaroos on that?

And, yes Blue Sky, I agree...it is underrated. It is a GREAT knife. Love the 271 in my EDC rotation. Thinking that the wet form of the sheath will be a good touch as it does pop out in all the wrong places right now.

Hawkeye...you getting another one?

Hey, thanks for those pics of the 271, Goose. And thanks for those pics in the picture thread of your two 889LE's. Now I just have to have one!

Let's see, birthday present for the wife or 889LE...hmmm...I just hate these ethical dilemmas. ;)

Edit - Yes, I too think the 270 scales look the best.

EEE,,,that botom bolster looks like a topo map. Real, or reflection? Neat looking !

Mokume is the proper name or it...sort of like Damascus but not folded metal,
Japanese label for non ferrous metal laminate...silver and gold palladium mix of
metals . I am sure there are several ways to make it.
Buck is using Mokume on several 2007 knives.

TFF! :D
Habit forming isn't Harry?
The "Hitchcock" line is funny. She'll get used to it and eventually it will just be odd to others and she'll not even notice. Love is patient.

EEE, I've come to the conclusion that you have at least one of each limited edition Buck ever produced. The giraffe 271 is stunning!
