My new 271 Alpha Dorado

Thanks for those pics,EEE, that 271 is amazing! Without question it is one of the most beautiful knives I have seen. Alas, if I dropped that sort of coin, my wife would have my goodies for bookends. :D

Giraffe bone is a very attractive scale material, should be used more often. Could be fragile though? But at 500 dollar that's beyond my funds!

Nice to see something cheaper but still different like say Ram's Horn, Bonestag or even Yellow Delrin, handy if you drop it:thumbup:

Giraffe bone is supposed to be the hardest and densest bone available.

This is from the AG Russell catalog: "Both the Mini Alpha Hunter and the Alpha Dorado are enhanced with rare African Giraffe Bone for handle scales. Giraffe bone is the hardest and densest bone known to knife making. It is not easily worked."

Well, AG Russell apparently has not talked to any of my girlfriends...

Mokume is the proper name or it...sort of like Damascus but not folded metal,
Japanese label for non ferrous metal laminate...silver and gold palladium mix of
metals . I am sure there are several ways to make it.
Buck is using Mokume on several 2007 knives.

Ron...yeah, they call it "mokume" cuz there are too many letter "R" and "L"s in "ferrous metal laminate".

It's been said before, but the Dorado's are a kick butt knife. It certainly is one of my favorites for EDC. Great design Buck
The sheath design is also a great selling point for me...but, I do admit as to not wearing it as much since Jeffey lost his...twice. :(

The Dorado is one of my favorites. Locks up tight as can be, opens smooth. It's one of the few I have that can knock the 2-dot 112 from my pocket for any length of time. It goes on the list of "most underrated" imo. I did have an issue with the sheath at first (the leather one) but after about 10 minutes of wet-forming it is excellent as well.

Blue Sky...I see that you have a lanyard on your 270 Dorado.Do you
ty it off to something when you edc it?
Thanks

Wish that gent that had the Buckmaster that flew over the boat had on lanyard attached.

Jeff...I would think about doing that for your Dorado. I may do that too.
While I really like the sheath design on the knife as a system, I would tuck the lanyard between the belt and pants. That would be a little something in case the snaps fail.

Whatcha think?

RON...where did you find that Mokume YouLookinAtMe Dorado????

Something like that, similar to what Buckaholic says. It doesn't show in the picture but there is a big knot in the end. I'll let the knife hang vertical in my pocket and tuck the knot up under my belt and out the top. The bulk of the knot catches on the belt and holds it in position. It works pretty well, just move the knot around until you get it where you want it. You can make the lanyard longer and take an extra turn around your belt to make it really secure, it's just a little harder to get off that's all. If I don't have a belt, I tuck the knot into another pocket where it does pretty much the same thing, just not as well.
