The tracking is still a little touchy, but I think I can work it out. Now I just need to build the platen.

What type of wheel is that? Are you sure the bearings can handle the speeds of a belt grinder?

Well, it's a new 8" lawnmower type wheel. Probably not the best choice for the final construction, but it's perfect for this stage of the project. I am in the process of installing some 6202-2RS-10 bearings which should make it smoother and more than capable of handling the speed of the grinder. The conversion stand is held on magnetically(for now) so it can be easily removed.

I wish I was that creative, I tried to do something similiar but mine never got finished, I look forward to seeing it run!

Lets hope it isn't one of those retreads. :D

I'd used lawnmower wheels several times when I fist started making. Be careful.

You got me thinking so I went over to Princess Auto today and looked over some of their metal hubbed speed wheels, 2 1/4 X 10" bearings included for $19.95 each. Low budget for sure and throw away or replace the bearings with new weld on hub machined to accept sealed bearings.

Ive looked through princess autos catalog and wondered about using their high speed 2 x 8 trailer wheels as contact wheels.. I think I have that same sander and I just tore it apart for the 3rd time to clean the metal dust out of the motor. I am going to strip it down and box the motor in and make it just a disk sander and maybe use the spindle on the back (that ran the belt) to run something else.
