My new Benchmade--HK 14205!

I'd like a 14210. I didn't like the design at first but the more I see it the more I like it.

Kreole,

I don't have the issue with the tip sticking out past the scales with the 14205, but these Snody collaborations from Benchmade can be a little...off...sometimes. I betcha they'd take care of it for you though.

Thanks for the reply. It's not actually past the edge of the handle, just so close that if the butt is in my palm, when I press down on the axis bar, which pushes the butt into my palm a bit, it can hit it. Measuring it now, it's about 1/16" short of being the same length as the scales. In comparison, the 940 has about 9/32" of scale past its tip, or my CRK small Insigno (which is very similar in every dimension) has about 1/8" from tip to the end of the scales. Maybe a pic would be better

or compared to the Insigno

...which reminds me, the 14210 came with absolutely perfect centering. I've taken it apart, and it went back together with perfect centering without requiring any fiddling, also.

The scales look functional and comfortable. Those who own them— are they?

If they made one with green scales and black blade but without serations, I would have to buy one. Some variation may eventually tempt me, though.

I really enjoy mine and it's a terrific design, but frankly the edge out of the box left a lot to be desired. That was a little disappointing.

I agree, a 4" blade would be one mean machine, for those special occasions.:p

Kreole,

Yup, mine is exactly like yours. In fact looking at it right now it may even be closer to the end of the scales than yours. It won't poke me, but if it were just a hair's breadth longer it might.

That's sort of what I mean about the Snody designs being a little "off." Don't get me wrong, I love 'em, but the spearpoint and wharncliff designs both have their little quirks when it comes to shoehorning those big blades into the handles.

Scott Free,

Honestly they're not the most ergonomic scales around since they're thin and flat, but I guess the tradeoff for comfort is a slim and easy fit in the pocket. The choil does a great job of locking your finger in place though.

TxAggieA-Batt,

None of my Snody's have been super sharp, but sharp enough, that's for sure. Those thick blades can be difficult to get a very fine edge on, but that's part of the tradeoff for strength too.

Best,

Heekma

That is the ONLY complaint I have about Benchmade. I have owned 4 BM's in my life and every single one needed sharpening from the get go. Once I got them sharp, they were excellent. They seem to have some seriously thick edges out of the box.

I bought one on ebay a few years ago. It had a lockup problem and the blade was hitting one of the spacers when closed. I sent it to Benchmade and they made it good as new for free. All I paid was shipping. I liked it so much, I bought 2 more.
