My new BG42 stars and stripes; before going to the spa! What do you think?

I just got this in; it's in a little worse condition than I was expecting, but I can't complain for what I paid. I'm not sure I'm keeping it yet, I think I like the simplicity of the plain titanium more. It's a large regular, scale says B01. I will be shipping it off Tuesday for the following:

Refinish Handles
Refinish / Sharpen blade
New Screws
lanyard / card or info

Do you think I'm having work done I shouldn't? Thanks for your input!!

I would have just kept the original screws. The one sided setup is from the period.

That clip may not be from the 2001 year.
Let someone more knowledgeable chime in.

Looking at it again. The lock side might be from earlier than 1997 without any inscriptions.

That looks a lot like mine. Large regular, BG-42, but mine has partial serrations, and came with a plain slab which I swapped out for a star & stripes I bought here.

Instead of the spa, you could make a user out of it, like I have.

Damn!

I just want to replace the heads; they're a little messed up from the previous owner, who bought it new from Orvis (supposedly).

I thought about this; but I just don't see it getting more use than the 'zaan or tanto 21... I guess I'm not as crazy about it as I thought I would be.

I like it a lot, how's the lock up on that old dog?
I can't see anything in the photos that'd make me refinish the blade and I personally prefer the flat back thumb stud and wouldn't want to give it up for a new one if I didn't "need" to.

When they redo the handle they grind it down which takes a little depth out of your graphic, but if you want it done it does show a bit of character so that's understandable.
I'd also never change out the original screws, you can easily refinish them with a Drexel in a few minutes.

If you're not going to keep that one send me a pm, I may be interested in taking it off if your hands.

That is awesome and congrats on the score! I think you would either have a tremendous user or a knife that will be upgraded at the spa. I would use for a bit before sending it back to the spa.

Thanks! I'm just not in love with it; just not my thing once I have it in my hands. I think the only graphic I'll be into is the diamond plate.

1AbominAble1- I sent you a PM

Sounds like you are leaning toward turning this over. Why not sell it as is and let the new owner decide how they want it, plus save the spa trip $$.

Send it in....Get it back brand spanking new...then use the hell out of it....the wait will be worth it.

I have this same design in a Large P Sebenza and also a Large Regular. By far my favorite US Flag pattern to date.

Not an expert on these matters but I have owned a few of these fantastic knives, I would say that the knife started out as a Plain Large Regular crica late 1997 or 1998 and someone later added the Stars and Stripes CGG side to it, so if it were mine and of course it isn't. Unless I really wanted to make it an EDC which I don't do anyway I would pass it on to someone else and let them decided what to do with it. Again just my humble un-educated opinion. ;) By the way, thanks for the fantastic pictures! !
All the best, Dave

If the blade was native to the lock side, is there a possibility that it could be ATS34?
I read that a small number of unmarked sebenza were using ATS34.

I don't think and again just my opinion, the blade is ATS-34. The majority of the ATS-34 blades were polished. But I am sure someone much more knowledgeable than I could chime in on that..

Oh, absolutely they did. And I would love to get my grubby little hands on one!!:D Actually a Beautiful example of a Small Orignal Sebenza with an ATS-34 stone washed blade BNB sold for big bucks on the bay. But again and this is just conjecture on my part... I honestly think that the Sergeant's knife started life as a Large "Regular" Sebenza with the plain finsh and stone washed BG-42 Blade, and someone later added the Stars and Stripes CGG presentation side.

I emailed the pics to CRK to try and get some definitive information on it. Hopefully my pics are good enough to get an educated idea of what I have. I am disappointed with it to be honest; the seller told me he got it brand new and has owned it every since. I let him know what is being said here and he is adamant that if this is from two separate knives that CRK did it.
