Perhaps this is a bit of a faux-paw posting a new thread as Bryan's models have been posted already. However, I just wanted to compliment Bryan and provide yet another endorsement on him as a great knifemaker and stand up guy.
I contacted Bryan Last Sunday about a Pathfinder and his wife, Kathy's, design of the new Kat Knife. Bryan took every opportunity to ask me what I wanted in the knives and was extremely open to suggestions for modifications to his existing designs. Basically he was willing to do anything from extending the handle, adding thicker or thinner handle slabs, changing the length of the blade or providing several different thicknesses for the blade material.
I actually tried to go with his suggestions as much as possible. Funny thing is, I used one of my existing knives to gage my wifes hand (she is going to be the recipient of the Kat knife) and it turned out Kathy's original design of 3.75" was just perfect for her grip.
Anyhow, Bryan finished the two knives yesterday (yes that is right, he made up 2 custom knives in less than 3 days of the order) and finished the sheaths today. He kept me informed each day by e-mail of his progress and provided pictures along the way. I've attached the pictures he sent me.
So far I'm really happy with how the knives look and also really happy with the sheaths. He is getting to be quite an accomplished sheath maker to boot (pun). I can't wait to get them and will post a review attached to this thread once they arrive.
Here are the specs on each knife:
Pathfinder: 5" blade + ~5" Handle. O1 steel. 1/8" (0.125") thickness.
Kat: 3.25" blade + 3.75" Handle. O1 Steel. 7/64" (0.109") thickness.
These are Bryan's pictures. I don't have the knives in hand yet. I wanted him to post them, but he was modest and said he would rather I provide a review of his work rather than him 'tooting his own horn'.
This is a picture of the Kat knife in Kathy's hand:
These are the sheaths. The pathfinder has a loop fitted for an army sized firesteel. The kat knife has a loop fitted for a scout sized steel. I think he did a fine job on the stitching and his leather has a great colour to it.
My only problem is now that I have seen the Kat knife, I want one for myself.....
Thanks for the outstanding work Bryan!
