My new brown bone Case 6292

Same location, with the next morning's rising sun on the horizon.

This to is my favorite and also my screen saver, I love the pink of the sun on the horizon and the glint of it on the track

Thank you Doug!!! Your photo skills are terrific ;)

Paul

Thank you Paul, you are too kind.

Another fun thing about taking knife photos in my hometown is the full circle element. Blurred due to focus, but still visible in the upper left of the picture is the shed in my Grandma's backyard. Spending time with my Grandad in that shed, in his garage, in and around the house over 45 years ago, is where I first caught the bug of always having a knife in my pocket, just like he did. As I have said before, my Dad's parents lived just four houses down the street from us, and I spent a lot of time there. His Schrade pocket knife is my avatar.

Doug, the tree you used to climb, your Grandpa's shed in the picture by the tracks and the tracks themselves just make it that much more special

I bet you walked those tracks on many adventures as a youth, I'd even guess a coin was laid upon the tracks for the train to flatten? ;)

More adventures than you know! My Mom recently sent me an old newspaper article about one of those adventures from when I was 12 years old. And yes, many copper pennies were made flat and smooth on those rails.

Well, I have finally pushed through the wall of reluctance, and overcome my irrational hesitancy to put this knife to full use. It has been exactly three weeks since since Paul's amazing gift arrived. I've had it in my pocket several days in those three weeks, but I have yet to bring myself to putting it to any heavy use that would change the look of the pristine blade steel.

Something inside me balks at being the one to alter a knife that has remained in as new condition for over 35 years. Even this morning to slice an apple I took the Schrade 12OT from my watch pocket instead of the 6292 in my front pocket. But that flies in the face of Paul's expressed desire in giving the knife to me. In the letter that accompanied the knife he wrote:

"It pains me to think of this great old knife just sitting without ever being used for what she was intended to do. -- cut things! . . . PLEASE use her! . . . All I want is for you to use her and make her feel welcome."

So, in a little while I will begin turning 5 pounds of russets, a couple yellow onions, several cloves of garlic, and about a half pound of bacon into loaded baked potato soup. Pictures to follow in due course.

The chant goes up from North Dakota "use it" "use it" "use it" :)

Doug, she is yours to do what you will with it. Pristine is fine, but patina is even better ;)

Take Care Doug,

Paul

As you wish.

A couple shots before we bid adieu to that shiny clip blade.

Thanks.

Not the sharpest pictures, but they show some of the color shift taking place.

Doug, the patina looks good but the meal looks fantastic!!! It's supper time here and I'm hungrier now after that great pictorial :)

I really think the patina will work extremely well with those gorgeous brown bone covers

Thank you Paul. Here is the finished product. I just had a bowl, and it is delicious (the red pepper flakes add a nice little kick). Don't anyone tell Duncan, though.
