My New Burner

I finally finished my new burner design..well a complimation of everyone who ever made a burner and posted pics or information on one. I'm able to maintain a flame at less than 1 lb on the regulator and run up to 27 lbs before I blow the flame out. What I need to know is...Does my burner blow out because it loses air to maintain the flame? Is that my burner limit. It's constructed of 3/4 in black pipe, 1 1/4 to 3/4 reducer on top for the input end. 10 " long finishing with a 3/4" to 1" adapter for the flare. The gas enters the tube through a 3/8 iron pipe taped out for a .035 mig welder tip. The flare end works perfect! I'd been having problems getting a good flame until I used this setup. It seems to have worked out to the right ratio for this burner. Anyway, if some one has some input on the burner blowing out.....Thanks Gary

Here are some pictures of the burner in the dark

i beleave that whats blowing your burner out is what thay call sonic somthing. its when the gas is leaving the jet faster than the speed of sound and causing problems. there is also somthing else called flame propagation speed, its the speed at which propane burnes. if the burner is run faster than that the flame gos out. hope that helps

Mine doesn't run for crap outside of the forge body. When it's mounted it cranks like a jet engine. I've always assumed that it's the pressure inside the forge that holds the flame just outside of the burner, not allowing it to extinguish itself.

I've heard also that a burner will run inside the forge but won't run very well outside. I think your right about the pressure. That's why we run a flare. When it runs at 27lbs, the flame is at 24 inches long. I really don't think I'm going to need that much pressure. I'm going to run two burners so two at half the full pressure should run okay.
Jarod, I do see what you mean about the speed of the gas. It appears to be coming out of the tube so fast the flame can't keep up. Thanks guys....Gary

What size reducer do you have on the tip? That looks like it would work just as good as the flares that everyone has on their burners.

Wade, it's 3/4" back to 1". I bought it at Lowes. I don't know if it was just the brand they carry, but it has a nice flare to it. I've tried just about everything I could make and I haven't found anything that let me run up to the kind of pressure I can run now. Everything on my old burner would blow out or start sputtering at about 10 lbs. Now I can crank it up to 27...Hope that helps....Gary
