Well I just received my CS PENDLETON HUNTER in the mail (not a bad knife for $30 shipped to my door)! Been looking for a cheap light weight knife to take on short pack trips with the family and decided on this. besides for some reason I just cannot take one of my high end knifes into the woods and destroy it, this knife is gonna get beat to hell within the next few months and having only spent thirty bucks well that makes it a little easier on me.

To everyone who owns a pendleton, what are your thoughts (are they a good fairly durable knife)? Also the VG-1 is that a fairly decent steel or is it on the lower end of the spectrum as far as blade steel?

Snapped a few pics!

Nice pics. I have no experience with this knife, (or any CS for that matter). But it looks like a solid blade for 30$. Is Vg-1 the same as Vg10?? If so, i really like the steel.

Looks nice, I'll be interested to hear how you and others like it. Looks like a steal for $30 with that sheath as well. Congrats

I'm glad to see that it isn't made in China. Looks like a nice knife. Do they say whether it's a full tang, or partial tang? Does the sheath hold the knife tight? Don't know a thing about VG1. Did they list the hardness of the steel in their description?

Seems like these are questions better asked before purchase.

Evenso, since you state you're going to ruin it, it sounds like you really don't care about performance, so why would it matter how good the steel is?

I do care about performance (I don't need a super knife that cuts through steel pipe) however I want something that is fairly durable. As far as I know all CS knives are somewhat decent (am just curious how people view this knife). My last buck I snapped the tip off while I was prying on something however this one seems has a much beefier tip. Don't want to find out the hard way while in the woods that it's undependable.

I would have posted before I purchased it however the deal popped up and I purchased it before someone else did.

Yeah I try not to buy stuff made in China! I went onto CS's site and it appears that it's full tang (F&Q section), the sheath holds the knife very tight (not by the blade but by the handle) it kinda locks into place!

Looks good and you can't beat the price!

Thanx!

Not sure about the vg-1 & vg-10 being the same?

for 30 beans you can get youself 3 mora clippers or 3 mora 510's over at ragweed forge they are sturdy reliable cheap, and great cutters...

I have a pendleton hunter in aus-8 and it has held up wonderfully through a lot of skinning and general camp chores. I really liked the knive.

Oh crap.....all those gr8 lookin knives and gr8 prices too, Wife is really gonna kick my azz now! :D

Reliable place to order from I take it? How fast is the shipping?

Thanks!

Ragnar is the man. He ships pretty quickly. Once you start browsing his site you end up spending a lot more than $30.

That CS looks decent for the price. It is a totally different knife than a Mora. Looks like a good beater.

for some reason I just cannot take one of my high end knifes into the woods and destroy it...

What are you doing to destroy a knife ?

Depending on that answer, it's possible your "high end knives" aren't all that high end.

Me, I'm after performance, first and foremost. If that costs extra, then so be it !!

I sure don't want to rely on an incapable knife in a serious situation.

I have looked at those a few times before and have been very tempted.
For $30 I think you have snagged a bargain, it looks a great little knife !
JMO but I'd sooner take that over a Mora any day !!!

ragnar is a great guy to deal with, i got my shipment from new york to indiana if about 4 days or so. the moras are very good knives and if one gets lost or destroyed then you are out a total fo 10 bucks o so depending on the one you bought.

You name it, on camping trips, hunting trips and on my property they get used (heavily)! Maybe destroy isn't the best word more like heavily used?

I have quite a few knives, if my my wife found my collection she'd divorce me (same goes for my gun & flashlight collection)! Some of my high end knives I'm sure are far from the best however they are by no means cheap!

Have several knives from Bill Moran, a Wilson Tactical, scrapyard dumpster mutt & the rest are mainly folders like benchmade. Also have some cheaper ones like a 650 buck nighthawk and a gerber LMF II however I really prefer to carry something thats fairly weather resistant due to the fact that I live in WA. State.

Thats what I'm after however I don't have the heart to take a $500 + knife in the woods. I've taken my dumpster mutt out however when it came to things like splitting wood and doing other chores around the camp site I just couldn't use/mark up the knife. (Just weird like that I guess)?

I sure don't want to rely on an incapable knife in a serious situation.

Yeah I hear ya.

That blade should do the trick. I have an old master hunter in carbon v that does everything I need it to. The kraton handle does feel like it will wrench off the tang given enough force.

The kraton handle, how is it installed (is it somehow molded on) or glued?
