my new cyclone is rusting!!

...

Reholli, Tuf Glide is pretty good stuff. I use it more as a lube that a protectant but it does both jobs well. A Tough Cloth is really good for quick touch ups and removing finger prints during marathon knife fondling sessions. If you get a tough cloth make sure you go ahead and get a small bottle of tough glide too. Eventually the cloth will dry out and you can bring it back to life with a half a dozen drops of Tuf Glide.

Enjoy:thumbup:

Thanks, spiral...I was going to get both...ahhh, marathon knife fondling sessions...sounds like knifesturbation...

Individual "chemistry" can certainly do this. When I was young, even light perspiration from my hands would remove the blue from a gun in pretty short order. Luckily that changed when I got into my later 20's ... but I've known other guys whose pockets were hell on metal, brass keys turning green, even chromed steel getting deeply rusted and pitted.

Just keep 'em clean, wiping with something like Break-Free CLP or Hoppes #9 should neutralize anything evil, and keep a light coat of oil or protectant on them.

I can relate to this...even now (although no longer young) my fingertips still dissolve plating on metals, newsprint and magazine print almost immediately, and drive my cats into a washing frenzy whenever I pet them...this phenomena was actually worse when I was younger...makes you wonder...

has anyone tried stuff like mothers mag & aluminum polish? Would that be too abrasive? sure would like to keep that logo on the blade ;)

Militec 1 is great! renaissance wax? Why? The residual Militec should be protection enough. After all if you put wax on top of the Militec 1, aren't you effectively taking the Militec1 Off?

I clean all my knives and blades with Militec-1... wipe them dry and then coat and buff the blades with renaissance wax.

I do it while watching Tv... guns too, drives my wife crazy.

I hear that sometimes he likes to hang upside down and dissassemble his Blur and put it back together real fast before he passes out. OE is always in a constant state of readiness and his skills have to be sharpened to a razor edge. :D

I can't help it sometimes... sorry. I knew I liked you guys ;)

My chive I have had for about 2 years now, never gave it a specific cleaning. Three times now I have found it in the bottom of my washing machine clean as a whistle! Never had the slightest sign of rust, and it's humid as heck in the summers here but no trouble at all.

Now I may have to clean it, I feel bad sitting here thinking about it. :(

For some reason, my local knife store (who carries Kershaw among other quality brands) does NOT carry any sort of metal polish. I went to auto zone and got some mothers mag and aluminum polish. I was worried about it being too abrasive so I tested it on my old black horse II that has had surface rust for over a year now. I just followed the instructions and ta-da, my black horse looks like new. I should have taken before and after shots but I didn't think about it. My cyclone looks brand new again and the logo on the blade is still intact (it didn't do a thing to it). I'll be sure to keep Break-Free CLP or some other protectant on it from now on. I promise to put it on weekly but I don't think I can tear down the knife every night, apply CLP, and safely wrap the blade in a soft hand towel. ;) Thanks for all the help!:thumbup:

I'm definitely picking some miltec-1 up soon now. Will miltec remove rust spots or just help prevent them? I was at a party recently, and set my bump down on a table to go to sleep and when I found it in the morning it was lying on the soaked carpet next to an empty cup of water. RUSTED!
