Here is a great way to store your EDC's for a quick pick for the day

That is a great idea, though a word of caution for you. My wife used some of that grippy mesh material under a tablecloth on our table, and the rubbery mesh destroyed the finish of that table, ate right through the finish. I have since stopped all use of that stuff.

- I agree with Duane about the anti-skid stuff. I used some of it in the dashboard cuddyhole of a car a while ago and it kind if melded into the dash! Be careful of your gorgeous jigged bone and wood!

But the storage boxes are awesome! What perfectly sized compartments.
:)

#42's and #47's are some of my favorites, you have some nice knives.

Thanks, I'm hooked on #42's, #47's & #72's :D

Thanks for the heads-up, I will have to figure-out a different liner

That's a good point about the mesh type of liners. The liner made for tool boxes works much better and does not imprint itself on knives, etc. stored on them.

I wasn't aware that the dealer you got your liners/boxes from was a Blade Forums sponsored dealer.

Thanks for the liner suggestion, I happen to have that out in the garage!

Rickster, I like those boxes, too. I happened to grab some from the fishing aisle at a local "department store" (do they even call them that any more?). I'm currently using bubble wrap as a liner, but I don't like it - moves around too much. I think your boxes are smaller than mine, which is probably a good thing. Once I get the box full, it's like "rotator cuff roulette" trying to get it up or down from the high shelf where I keep my knives.

So, great idea! (But this storage solution sort of pales in comparison to Primble's nostalgic display case!:o)

Just asking, but wouldn't be ok just to leave them on the plastic? Only issue I could see would be if the boxes are moved around a lot, there could be some faint handling marks. Those boxes look about exactly the right size. Good call.

I've two of the red metal tool boxes with the felt type liners in them that I've had knives stored in for at least 20 years without an issue.

I've recently started using wooden empty cigar boxes that have the individual dividers. Work well and are a nice flat size. Can find them cheap on the large auction site and the older vintage type ones look kinda cool too.

I use the dessicant packs in everything as well. Figured it can't hurt. No issues so far.

I had roughly the same idea but used felt in the clearance bin from a craft store. I think I got a yard of it for around $3. I was going to use these little tackle box inserts like what you did but I just have to many edc's! So I went with one of those bin setups that you would normally keep like nuts and bolts and screws in.

This is just a picture I pulled off the internet but mine is almost exactly like this only a different brand. I still need to get around to labeling mine but now I've been using it for so long I already know which ones go where. :)

I have a range of the tackle boxes -rhymes with Drano- used a product name there to avoid using the actual product name (how stupid can I get?). I agree the smaller ones that fit 8-10 knives are best.
I've got a couple of 2 tier/double storey boxes which are quite heavy when full and rather cumbersome to lift down from the shelf.
I use the paper from the GEC tubes as liner or simply cut up some old but clean Tshirt or work shirt material (the price is right:D).

PS I think "doubling up " or compartment sharing is undesirable although some of mine are tripled up.

Did want to mention you can buy those brown waxy knife papers like in the tube quite reasonsble. So then you'll still have the one for your tube and can cut them to suit your needs. Nice stuff. I like it.

Wanted to share that in the event you want to ship that EO in my direction, ;)

I like the drawer liner for the non-skid properties but I won't let old or natural handle material sit on it. I keep such knives in small pouches.

Nice - I do the same thing with an assortment of tackle boxes. I just leave them on bare plastic - they don't get moved around often, so it's not been an issue. For anything not in EDC rotation, I use foam lined boxes, like this (for ultimate protection ):

I have a load of various tool and tackle boxes of the type shown. I find the bare plastic fine. I prefer the look of wooden boxes though, old cigarette and cigar boxes usually, and line them with felt. I need to go some more actually :)

OK so we are all agreed . Tackle boxes with small compartments are the go.
Followed closely by tool chests, high tech looking pelican cases and filing cabinets with special receptacles for our knives.
Old wooden cigar boxes being the 5 star penthouse for a knife.
If you are like me however you didn't get any chance to source old cigar boxes or even new ones because your Head Of Operations has already told you several times to get those knives out of your sock drawer because I can't get the socks in.
So the next question is where to keep the GEC tubes and other packets that the knives come in. Necessity is the mother of invention. I simply wear my socks for 2-3 days there by reducing the overall need for sock space in my tube drawer.
BINGO.

:D:D:eek::D Yeah, your photo sort of undid your clever attempt to disguise the brand. I use that brand of box, too.

I agree that the compartment sharing isn't ideal, but I also end up doing it, which is one reason my boxes get so heavy.

BINGO.

May I make a modest proposal? Put a knife or two in each pair of socks! Knives and socks can then share the same space, and you automatically know which knife to carry each day - choose your socks and you choose your knife at the same time. :p
