My New EsKabar!

Okay I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. I recently bought a new BK14 to use as a neck knife. The only trouble is I'm not really liking results I'm getting from it. The paracord is uncomfortable on my neck and itches a lot, it really juts out when worn under my shirt and doesn't conceal well, especially when bent over, and it just plain hangs freely when worn over my shirt. I don't know what to do with it.

I can say the 14 is one knife I'll always own. For me it's an all arounder. Home, woods, in town... everywhere carry. But I open carry it in a subtle custom leather sheath. I'm also a good ol boy and visible knives aren't out of place. On the rare occasion they are, I take a folder. Rat 1 blade is very similar in size and shape (of the cutting edge at least). Full flat grind if you like that. Not as robust by any means, but still a tough knife for a folder. Neck knives aren't for me. If they were I'd use a break away chain rather than paracord and the 14 in it's factory sheath is relatively large. Same issue with the new 1117. That and I hate skeleton handles.

What to do with it? It's a great knife, find a niche for it and use it. Or work up some kind of custom sheath set up.

You can always try a cross draw set up for your belt if neck carry doesn't work out. Slim profile...hardly noticeable.

I carry my 14 in a KSF pocket sheath with a leatherman juice.
Back right pocket. Never without it! Just an outstanding knife!

I also picked up a 14 a few weeks ago. Wrapped some paracord around the handle, and while its a nice small blade and I like it, the bevel on mine is pretty bad and gets worse as it approaches the tip, probably like a 70/30 bias to 1 side. This a common problem? Thanks again.

Got this knife Tuesday and love it. I made a minimalist leather sheath for it and wrapped the handle. I cut over 20 bags of concrete open with it on Thursday and the edge held up surprisingly well. Good decision on buying this knife.

An even better decision to not use the stock sheath. Nice little pocket sheath you got there. :)

I'm going to hopefully get some RIT dye and change the orange to as close as olive drab as possible. I may fudge them up, but I may succeed. It should be fun to try at least

I used dark green Rit Dye on the orange scales and they are a nice Rootbeer Brown. As a matter of fact they are riding my 14 as we speak. I'm not sure what color you are going to need for OD green color though. Post up your Rit color and process when you get the chance please!!

That Izula looks pretty cool, I just like the extra little length that the EsKabar has. And I have decided to keep the orange scales.

The orange is quite stunning, and a very non-threatening color.
