My New Favorite Beater EDC.. Made in USA for $35!!

Looks good too bad its almost 5oz! Slap a ZT 0550 2nd/3rd gen deep carry clip and your set.

can it be de-assisted?

Yes. It's a little bit of a pain to get apart though, you need to hold the handle screw on one side and then turn the other (you need two torx drivers). After the torsion bar was out though it flipped pretty well. I tried it on an aluminum version, should be the same for the plastic handle version also.

That sounds like a tough job! So it does have proper detent right?

I bought my brother the aluminum handled one for christmas. Being as inpatient as he is, he already opened it. He loves that knife. Before I shipped it to him i played around with it and it really is a very nice knife. Anyway, here is a picture of his. Knifeworks.com did the engraving.

I have been looking to get one of these since they came out! Does anyone know if the one for sale at the big box is only sold there? From what I can tell the frn handle with blackwash blade is not available anywhere else. My birthday is in two weeks and I already told my wife that a Link is the only thing I want. I just need to narrow down which version.

Yea it's only available there. The GRN handle isn't as pretty at the the aluminum version but it's lighter and IMO more comfy.

I wish Kershaw would get away from assisted openers. I can name like 10 knives I would buy in a heartbeat if they were not assisted.

I read on dave Anderson's site I think the reason for the steel was a low price everyone could afford.14c28n is the minimum on any knife I carry. I have zt's along with usa made kershaws. the 0777 a safe queen Damascus and m390 I think don't have the knife in hand to be sure, the 0770cf in elmax, the 0350 in s30v and the 0550 in s35vn. the kershaws are blurs, shallots in all different steels including Damascus. as far as assisted I love it.i have a lot of case knives I acquired for my collection over the years, but I carry zt and kershaws now

The knife buyer for WM is a member here, emw479, and if online may chime in or respond. He regularly contributes to friendly and interesting discussions, as they pertain to WM models of Buck Knives (past, present and future), over on the Buck Forum. Nice guy.

I would love to see them offer different colors on the aluminum version similar to what they did with the Launch line. I would also like to see the aluminum offered with the satin (or stonewashed) blade instead of the blackwashed. Variety is the spice of life.

I love American made knives, not really a fan of speedsafe though, just not for me. My next folder is going to be a Kershaw Skyline.

Actually I don't mind them offering assisted models, I just wish they'd offer the same in an unassisted version. (which might be what you're trying to say in the first place)

The second I saw the title of this thread, I knew it was a link. I gotta break down and get one of these already....

My kids gave this to me for Christmas. I really like and it will be my work knife now.

I just picked up the last blackwash grn version I could find locally. I am very impressed! The blade is centered, locks open with no play in any direction, and this is my hardest "firing" assisted knife yet. It is ridiculously sharp and feels solid, but not too heavy. Great Knife!

Just wanted to add- I have the grn version and did the de-assist- there was no blade detent! I guess the aluminum and grn version have some differences in design. All the people who have said they have de-assisted this knife, that I have seen, have an aluminum version. I have de-assisted a few Kershaws in the past, and especially liked the Blur that way, but it doesn't seem to be an option on the grn handled Link. Just a heads up, as I am still loving this knife, and would recommend getting one!
