My New Favorite Knife

Hi Harold, If you are not 100% on it being carbon - I'm not 50% on all of them being stainless... Ken.

Today marks my 4th day of carry for this 50T. I have cut everything from cardboard to feathering some oak sticks in an effort to dull the knife and the edge is still razor sharp. It slips into the pocket and rides there very well. This knife is an excellent EDC knife and the ergos make it very comfortable to use even with task that require long periods of repetitive motion such as feathering sticks that usually tire your hand out and even cause cramps. My conclusion is that this knife was definitely designed as a user for those that require hard use from a knife while also offering good looks as well as comfort in both carry and use. The lock is very solid and gives a greater sense of safety when pressure is applied that by far surpasses that of a slipjoint my usual EDC. If this knife were built and sold today by some of the top US manufacturers of knives it would most likely sell for $125 plus. This knife was a tremendous value at $20 and I am very happy I found and bought it. Also thanks to all of you here you certainly make a feller feel welcome.

Ahhhh this thread reveals a lot. Didn't realize there was so much 5 OT hoarding going on! It keeps the prices high on eBay for ones originals in pristine condition! I've been trying to find a mint green one on eBay for $25 for like two years now. I don't know why I have it in my head that it would be $25 but that's the ceiling that I set for myself to acquire one.

I gulped hard the other day while checking completed listings on ebay and saw a 5OTG, mint in the tan box, that sold last Nov. for $20. I paid a bit more for my last two, one in the tan box and one in the blue box. I paid $20 for my first one about 15 years ago at Walmart in a clampack. Ya never can tell about ebay. If you're serious, do a saved search with email notifications. That's the best way to stay on top of it. But even then, one might slip away from you if the auction is posted as 'Schrade Knife'. Sometimes pays off to have varying vague descriptions of the knife you want as saved searches too. Before I stopped looking at them in 2014, they were costing around $40 and up. Sometimes way up, especially carbon steel bladed ones. But that's ebay. Sometimes I do a happy dance and sometimes I cry.

I saw what he wanted for that one! Nuts! I had had a notification set but had deleted it last year as it wasn't bearing fruit! I still randomly look when I can! It's a very cool knife in general. Just a great size of the pocket. I feel like it's the original mini grip in alot of ways.

Well I've had my 5OT heavily in my EDC rotation for a month now cutting and slicing every thing from cardboard and wood to apples and steak and a little bit of everything else. It has performed beautifully, has held it's edge well however does need a little minor attention right now as would be expected from any fine piece of cutlery. I am still very pleased with this little $20 knife and so glad I not only came across it but that I bought it. It may sound crazy but I like this knife better than any of my GEC's or even my small Sebenza 21 or my Mnandi. And again all this for $20.

you might look at the LB5 the blade is the same length just not drop point. it too is a handy thing to have with a sharper point. i use to use the 30T all the time at work til they outlawed lockback knives now i just carry a Wave leatherman.

I've had my eye on a LB5 for a while, I have a Wave and a Surge they are great tools. A lot of usable gear for a little money.

Here is a 5OT I bet most have never seen.

Guess the quality control inspector decided to let this one go. :D

Part of my 93 set.

Fat city...LOL
I can tell you that Quality Control didn't let that ride on their findings! My Mom was higher up in the QC realm at Schrade and many times they were told to let stuff like that pass....Schrade did this in order to get orders filled. Many times they would have to bring knives back for repair, knowing that they should have never left the factory to begin with. It was all about meeting delivery and fixing problems after-the-fact. Schrade was not the only company to use this practice.

I was just having a little fun.

It's always a nice little surprise to find an easter egg.

The mood around here has been a little somber of late.

Thanks for the great inside historical information though.

I've read a few of your moms early posts, thoroughly enjoyable.

Actually you probably read early posts from Debbie Chase....She was my Sister In Law.

So things you just never know about Schrade though....just when you think you have it figured out....something else pops up and changes things.....LOL

Fantastic TChase!

It's what keeps me coming back and on the hunt.

Another Easter egg down millions more to go.:D

These 5UHs came with a nylon sheaf.
