My New Favorite Sheath Knife ...

For the past few months I have really been drawn to Bark River knives.
I like the fact that they have so many different styles available, with just about any kind of scale material you could want. Plus they are a family run business here in the good ol U.S.A...
I had never had a knife in A2 steel until I bought my first Barkie. The long term, hard use reviews seem to be very favorable...

I was fortunate enough to receive this new Bark River Fieldsman II today from fellow forumite G2 . BTW , you couldn't ask for anyone better to deal with...

Usually when I get a new sheath knife that I haven't been able to handle prior to purchasing, I always find something I wish was different when I first handle it.

Not with this one..... As soon as I took it out of the box, this knife and I bonded. It really feels like it was made just for my hands.

Anyway, it is a discontinued Bark River Fieldsman II. According to Mike Stewart this model was only made for one production run, and there will probably never be another run... Overall length of 8 1/4 inches, A2 steel and Antique Stag Bone .

I had to borrow the picture that Gary used for his sale thread, because my wife loaned our camera to her daughter. I was going to wait and do the thread when she brought the camera back, but I was to excited to get this one.

Thanks Will. My first two Barkies had wood scales. One was Desert Ironwood and the other was Becote. They looked very nice, but it wasn't the look I was after.
So I bought a BRK Woodsman in ASB and now this knife. I also have a Huntsman pre ordered in ASB that should be here before the end of the year.

Needless to say, I've found my latest addiction :D

Very very nice looking knife. I'm unfamiliar with A2 steel. Does it take a patina like 1095?

Thanks MN. It does take a patina. From everything I've read, BRK's heat treat on the A2 works very well. A lot of the guys on their sub-forum use their knives very hard, and the reports are that it takes the abuse and keeps a great edge .

Congrats, Mike. I hope it serves you long and well!

Good looking knife. Be mindful when using it, Barkies can bite you badly if you're not paying attention.

Thanks all.. She will get her first official duty tomorrow cuttin up the bird :D

First thing when I got up, I had to get her out of sheath and fondle it some more. :D

I haven't been this excited to get a new sheath knife in quite some time.

They have so many options available Peter. All different sizes and just about every imaginable scale material.

I'm very happy with them so far. Another plus is their lifetime no questions asked warranty. They are family owned and operated and seem to genuinely care about their customers

I bought the least expensive handled Bark River knives - micarta or G10 - until I bought my Boone in Bocote. It's a looker... The next one purchased? Back to micarta & G10 users! Seriously, Mike Stewart's knives are made to be used - and even the least expensive variant looks nice - real nice. That Bocote handled Boone just doesn't see much use, however, as it is just too nice looking!

As an example, my BRK&T Gameskeeper in natural canvas Micarta, a definite user, and my bocote Boone, a looker:

In all seriousness, the Boone is seeing more and more use - and it was bought during a 'sale'! All Barkies are users here.

I like the Gameskeeper. I was going to get one before I found the Fieldsman.
Being discontinued, I decided to snag this one first, but will definitely be picking one up...

The Boone has some lineage to the old Marbles :D.

They make some nice knives. They are made to be used, and used hard.

Mike, your Fieldsman II is about the nicest Barkie i have ever seen.
the only 'problem' with BRK is that they are producing such a large array of beautiful knives, that it is difficult to choose, esp. as all get great reviews.
