My new favorites!

If you guys haven't noticed, I'm a bit of a RAT fan.

I currently own everything in the product line and none of them are safe queens, they all get a healthy workout on a regular basis. I love to hike and a decent sized fixed blade is always with me. I have a few fire pits in my backyard and one of them is going most of the time at night, outdoor cooking on an open fire. That's my little testing ground, alot of fire building, batoning, carving.

What I'm trying to say is that I use my knives alot, more than the average I would say. Not claiming to be an expert, just an avid user.

So anyway, my point is, after using all the RAT blades, I think I have my favorites boiled down to two.

Not that the others aren't great, just that these are the ones I find myself reaching for the most often.

Yup, it's the 5 and the 3.

I made up my own sheaths for them. Not that the stockers aren't up to the task, just that I make as many sheaths as I can as practice. At some point in the distant future, I'll be selling my wares but not until i feel they're good enough.

The 3 is my current EDC and I grab the 5 when I need something bigger. As you can see, the 5 has done a bit of batoning. It's thickness makes it a natural at it.

Just a pretty pic for the finale.

6 and the 3 for me. I own 'em all except the 5, but I did get to handle one in the pass. All great knives as you said shotgunner

Hey Mrs. Shotgunner. Welcome to the pack! Do you go along on the possum huntin' trips?

hey thanks........go along? all we have to do is check our garage or the backyard! the same damn opossum has a vendetta against the shotgunner family. but to answer your question. no. lol i'm usually sitting on top of something manning the camera screaming when the opossum screams at the mr. :D

At some point I will, but not until I have it all down a bit more.

Right now my sheaths are functional but not that great. Honestly, there are alot of makers making better stuff than me for the same price I would have to charge to make it worth it.

ok thanks shot. do you know any1 that makes a kydex sheath for a RC-3 mil-S?

I have a racoon that terrorizes my dogs and my garbage cans. I can't believe the size of him (medium sized dog) and he is fearless. I can't go around shooting where I live, but I have hit him with a few full beer cans.

My sister has a coon living in a tree in her back yard, and the damn thing harbors a special hatred of me for some reason. Every time I go over there it throws something at me. I'm the only person who gets things thrown at him. Sunday I got pegged in the head with a chicken bone.

I'm one of those "if you kill it, you gotta eat it" types and I just have no intrest in eating that little bastard.

I might have to though, he's causing me all kinds of issues.

It's like Peter Griffin and the giant chicken over here.

Do NOT eat that thing! I found a dead deer in the woods once, and the thing's belly was moving. Being a curious, red-blooded American boy, I got a stick and poked the belly of the carcass. After a couple pokes, baby possums started crawling out of the deer's ass. I refuse to eat anything that might have crawled out of a dead thing's ass.

Fortunately I haven't had any beer cans thrown back my way It wouldn't surprise me if the little bastard were capable of it though :D

Thanks for that imagery  Please don't eat the ass dweller shotgunner. :(

thank GOD you wrote that! I was not cooking that damn thing. i knew it was an ass dweller before you even mentioned it. why else would it need that loooong nose? why surely it's to poke it's face through the sphincter!

as this one ran down our fence last night i swear i could hear it's brass balls jingle!

btw honey, your sheaths, and pictures are fantastic! thanks for putting the cover back on our bed and taking care of the kids today ;)

I just picked up some kydex a month or so ago and my first several attempts have been pretty bad looking. They grip like hell--but just don't have good curves to them.

I was trying to model mine on the RC-4 sheath. How far from the edge of the blade are you placing your rivets? How are you getting the final shape? I've cut mine with a band saw. Are you using a belt sander to finish? I've been looking for an old bench top belt sander that I managed to, "Lose" in the basement. I can't imagine using a handheld belt sander.

Don't mean to overwhelm with the questions!

I'm still hoping for some Rowen kydex!

Chris
