My NEW forge!!

That orange means that it's being cooked. That metal on the burner pipe is getting up to forging heat...

About the satanite- if it's anything like cement, it needs a little while to cure (a day or so), and when it is heated before curing, the water will evaporate, popping and putting holes, cracks, tears, etc. in the satanite.

I only let it sit for a couple of hours... (more like 2)

That would explain my problems with it cracking and falling off. It may solve my problems with heat of the outside of my box geting too hot.

I just hope I have enough left over to coat the whole thing...

What I really need is to get my hands on some pipe.

Thank you,

Hey!!!! That's a more reasonable size. I would try to do what Fatzo said round the corner. You alway can do it next time you reline it weld flat stock in the corners. Just be careful and have fun with it. :D

mild steel's no good as it can't be hardened. not enough carbon content.

Thanks I'll remember that. It's just that I heard somwhere that the mild steel works as a self sharpening system. As the knife is used the mild steel is worn away leaving you with your stronger steel for the edge. I don't know if this is right. I read it from here: http://raysknives.netfirms.com/aboutdamascus.htm. Towards the bottom middle he talkes about how it makes a "minature saw edge".

Today I jacked the inswool from my "monster sized" forge, and cleaned it off. I am going to make a round propane tank forge. Hopefully I'll get that flame rotating. :)

jimmy, i'd never heard of that method before, not that that's saying much as i'm a newb too, but it makes sense. can't hurt to try. i'd be interested to know how it turns out...
