did you coat it with itc-100. if not do it asap as the fiber will release cancer causing stuff into the air when hot. the itc will also reflect more heat inside.

Ugggh! Please tell me that I do not see uncoated insawool being used inside your shop! The first thing I would do is give her a good coat of satanite/ITC and angle your burner to give you a flame that swirls around your forge.

It looks pretty good but your burner might be insufficient.

I treated the kaowool with rigidizer, the only reason it was fired was to dry that. I've got ITC-100 on the way. It's kinda hard to come buy in Remote Alaska, and our beloved U.S. mail can take ye olde sweet time to get here :)

I'll try angleing the flame like you suggest when I get the ITC coating on it. And yeah, I think the burner is too small, but it's all I got for the next couple of months 'till I can afford a bigger one.

I appreciate the feedback. Any other thoughts from anyone?

Oh, I forgot to ask. How's the burner positioning look? I just kinda centered it since I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be more towards one end or the other...

Pheew that's a relief. You could build a small forced air burner for about $35 plus the cost of the blower.

Lol, oh I know the burner's not that expensive, but I just blew quite a bit of money replacing an anvil and some other equipment that I had to leave behind when I moved up here, so my wad is well and truly spent for a little while :)

there is ways to get more heat out of that burner but i dont know how others would feal about me posting a mod that could be dangeros. i have been there befor :D. ill think it over and see what others say.

Hey J, if you don't mind I'd like to hear your idea for a mod on the torch. I might just end up getting a real burner anyway, but I'm curious :)

Go to "backyard metal casting.com" and look for the "Oliver upwind burner"that you can build...Its what I'm using and it works pretty good...takes a little time to tweak it to top performance. Bill
