My new GEC Barlow!

I couldn't convince myself to buy one of the GEC Barlows because it sounded too small. Fortunately I was able to pick one up in a trade. I've really gotten to like it. Even thought it is a seemingly small knife, it is big enough that you can hold it comfortably. The way the knife is rounded makes it extra comfortable to hold. I wound up reprofiling the blades on mine so I could use it for whittling. It's a great size and shape for that.

Hi,

The GEC is comfortable to use. The Russel I had years ago and the RR I bought a couple of weeks before I got this Barlow, are bigger and squarer knives. So I was amazed that the 3" size not only allows fine control, but also some very powerful cuts.

I scored 6 cuts into Plexiglas sheet with the point of the clip blade. I really put the pressure on the knife. I was amazed at how easy and comfortable it was to do the job. This is a real workhorse of a knife.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why I put that Russel. I think I missed out on something.

Great knife!

I too wish they offered more non serialized versions. I am not a collector so I don't see the need and the non serialized ones (which are basically identical to the serialized ones) are slightly less expensive.

This whole numbering thing is driving me nuts. I made a commitment that I won't own a knife I won't use, and sometimes serial numbered is what's available. I don't care that it's numbered so much, just that it usually costs a bit more.

That said, I love GEC's.

thx - cpr

What is driving you nuts is not the numbering, but that silly commitment not to own a knife you won't use. Release that unreasonable restriction and things will come into focus, unless you have been selling too much plasma- then everything is a bit fuzzy... and swirly and... "Conductor... please stop the world... I'd like to get off."

I hear you, but that commitment keeps me on the straight & narrow. :D ;) I actually have a couple I won't use for regular carry, but they do get used for some tasks, especially when my son is with me.

Part of what I like about collectorknives.net is that they usually have both numbered and non-numbered available.

Got a Wharncliffe GEC Barlow when they first popped up at Cumberland Knifeworks. It has been my watchpocket EDC rotating with a Spyderco black pearl MicroDyad.

I love it.
