:pileofskulls::pileofskulls::pileofskulls::pileofskulls::pileofskulls::pileofskulls:

So I got this mostly usable last week and have ground out a couple knives with it. I have been making knives for at least 8-10 years and have never even ground a knife on a 2x72:eyeburn: I have been using a trusty old HF 6x48 for the last 6 years. surprisingly waiting for it to die, it never has?

I talked to Mick and read some of Brian's posts and decided I would build something to suit me.

I have prob 100 some odd hours into it, some good some bad:) its not perfect by any means but it works well and eats steel like nobody business!

Specs:
3HP 3PH VFD controlled lesson motor
.5" 6061 alum frame
1.5" 6061 tool arms
all stainless hardware
1.5" home made idler wheels
Beaumont tracking wheel
Beaumont 4" rubber drive wheel
.250" full hard 3V platen
Gas strut

I made this grinder completely in house and it is adjustable all the way out to a 180" belt length. I'm still doing some testing and waiting for a 3/4" 6061 bar to come in so I can finish the tool rest.

Not one tool is required to make any adjustment:eeek:
I'll do a vid soon if any body cares.

If you want any info on it or measurements let me know.

I messed up when I designed it and didnt give my self enough space under the main tool are for a second 1.5" opening for a tool rest. so I improvised and slot milled a bar and added some pins to the frame for it to rid on and a lever to lock it down.

I made to tool arm with an extra hing so that I could swing it out of the way when no in use for when changing belts:)

Seriously, that is one serious grinder. Pretty darned cool, and looks rugged as hell.

It looks like a complicated frame set-up. Did you mill all of that?

All done on a manual Bridgeport with a Kurt swivel base vice:) I still suck though, just persistent:D

Fantastic machine!!!! Very great machine skills and work went into that, you and Brian have made the 2 coolest custom grinders i have ever seen!

When you get this whole thing done - you will know EXACTLY how to do this sort of thing!

Then you will get a wild hair - and re-do the whole project to make it like you should have made it the first time... when you had no real clue what you were doing.

That is the wonderful thing about these projects - you learn SO MUCH. You then look at a KMG and think 'Oh - THAT'S why they did that!' or 'You know what would make this better?'

So cool....

It's great!

The right tools when it comes to building a grinder can be a God send!

It really looks nice, you have a real great design there!
