Working with Matt of www.mlknives.com, I had the knife below made for me. Today was the first day I got to use it.

1/8” thick 1095 with 4 1/8” blade and 4 1/8” handle.
Handle is hickory (durable and traditional). I also had it rounded to prevent blisters for extended use as well as tapered front and back to prevent slippage as there is no guard.
Spine is squared for firesteel and sparking with a sharp rock.
Scandi grind for versatility and easy sharpening.

I carved a few notches in a piece of seasoned red maple with the new knife and I am very pleased with its performance – sometimes you just know when you got a winner. Being an 1/8” thick gives it considerably more heft than I have been used to with my Mora, so fine work was a little concern, but this knife performs VERY well in that regard and I will have no reservations batonning, etc.

If I have time I will make a bow drill set tomorrow which will be a little better test.

FYI, Matt is a pleasure to deal with – he met all my requests at a very fair price and very high quality.

I will name it Bear Claw…

that's a great looking blade.... it'll serve you well for sure... matt makes some hard working knives....

i have a few (5)...:D

Oh, absolutely!

That's a really awesome blade, I'm sorely jealous. Is that a new model for hiim? I wasn't able to find it on his site, albeit a cursory glance. What's a rough price for it?

Excited to hear how you like it.

Just saw his 'woods and bush knife' -

That thing is also really rockin' my socks off...

Love the knife! It has that historic and traditional look, and a nice blade shape for multiple chores. Let us know how it functions!

Wow, everything about that is great. I believe my bark river nebula order is not going through, so it looks like a custom job is in order for my scandi.

Dangit! Just looked at his website. I'm dehydrated from drooling! He does beautiful designs.

I'm gonna be broke this year. I know it. But I'll be happy with my knives.:)

Quiet Bear,

She's a beaut! Nice score, let us know how it performs in the field...

I think it was his first Scandi grind. Can't say it was my design as it is just simple straightforward like a Mora. Price was definately right, comprabable to what is on his website.

Brian - I was going for functionality first, but the materials and look is traditional which is something I like. He did a great job on the sheath too - has my bear track on it which he did freehand.

That looks great, Matt really does some fine work. ANd a knife that you have a hand in designing is that much more special.

Congrats QB. Matt does very good work at a fair price. I have owned tow of his knives. Both were great designs.

I like yours. Looks like a very custom Mora (American Style;))

I like it! Simple. Nice lines. Good materials and dimensions. Looks like you've got a winner there!

Looks real nice bro, I love the sheath as well , havin your Bear track on....cool !!!!

Great looking knife... simple and to the point... no punn intended... lol.

I like the rough forge finish!

I bought one of his knives a couple of months ago. Great knife, I visit his site everyday, and I have never seen anybody go through knives as fast as he does. I am definatly going to have to buy another one, or two, or....

I like that one. Beautiful knife! It will perform superb.

I own three of Matt's knives and find the quality and "spirit" to be first-rate. Too, Matt is friendly, as easy to work with as they get. He knows how to run a business. I get a lot of ML Knives through the leather shop and I seem to like 'em all. :)
