Working with Matt of www.mlknives.com, I had the knife below made for me. Today was the first day I got to use it.
1/8 thick 1095 with 4 1/8 blade and 4 1/8 handle.
Handle is hickory (durable and traditional). I also had it rounded to prevent blisters for extended use as well as tapered front and back to prevent slippage as there is no guard.
Spine is squared for firesteel and sparking with a sharp rock.
Scandi grind for versatility and easy sharpening.
I carved a few notches in a piece of seasoned red maple with the new knife and I am very pleased with its performance sometimes you just know when you got a winner. Being an 1/8 thick gives it considerably more heft than I have been used to with my Mora, so fine work was a little concern, but this knife performs VERY well in that regard and I will have no reservations batonning, etc.
If I have time I will make a bow drill set tomorrow which will be a little better test.
FYI, Matt is a pleasure to deal with he met all my requests at a very fair price and very high quality.
I will name it Bear Claw
