Hello everybody just wanted to drop a note about my brother Scott of “Scott Cook Knives”. My name is Brad and I’m Scott’s younger but BIGGER brother, I had the pleasure and opportunity to meet some of you this past summer at the Blade Show. If you will let me take a moment of your time I would like to share a little story about my brother and I. Scott and I grew up in Western Washington with parents that shared their love for the outdoors and the importance of striving to be the best you can be.

Competitiveness some how became part of our family makeup???(Dad was a wrestling coach for 30+ years and Mom played and still plays competative tennis I’m not sure where the competitiveness came from?!?)

And what better opponent to have in a competitive match then your own brother. Scott and I are pretty competitive between the two us; no matter what it might be one of us needs to be #1 and the other #2. When we wrestled against each other at a very young age I could hold my own…..then I have to admit he started to kick my tail. Scott went on to become an All-American Wrestler at Utah State University so I don’t feel so bad by getting beat by an All-American. Yet I think that’s where the tail kicking stopped, I know for a fact that I have caught a BIGGER fish then Scott, and I know that I have shot more game birds then Scott. (I have photo’s to back all this up!! I’m sure if you ask Scott he would dispute this claim.) I do have to concede that Scott can put a point and an edge on knives sharper than I can put on a pencil. And again I do concede this point to my brother…..yet he felt in the sprit of competition that he should really make me understand WHO is #1 and WHO is #2. If you look at the photos that I have attached you will see what brother gave to me for Christmas this year!! The part you can’t see is that he made sure that I knew WHOM #2 is ~ I’m fortunate to have the Lochsa that has the #2 engraved on the back. The part that I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know is how much this beautiful knife means to me, Scott, I now how much blood, sweat, and time goes into each of these works of beauty and I thank you with all my heart. Nobody is prouder then I to pull out my Lochsa and show inquiring people the beautiful work that MY BROTHER does!!

PS. If you are wondering where #1 went, lets just say I was sitting next to my Father at Christmas when he opened a Lochsa Bag ……….

PPS. Did anybody notice the new pin?!?!?
:)

Thanks for the pix Brad. I did notice the pins. Are they special for you and your Dad? I know how lucky both you and your father are. My #12 resides in a new leather home thanks to Mr. Gary Graley. :D

Best to you and Scott.

Jack,
I like the case nice pic., about the pins I do believe Scott is putting that type of pin in all the Lochsa's now.

Brad, very nice of you to share your story and pictures with us, I like the new pin a lot, it reminds me of the symbol he put on the knives before he changed to the S. Cook signature. When I have talked to Scott in the past he has given you a lot of credit for helping him start up SCK.

And I now consider myself extra lucky to have Lochsa #3, almost like family :)

James your right the pin does look like Scott's logo, I hadn't notice that he had changed signatures on the knives. You need to see the special little tool he made so he could put in and take out that pin. So many knife makers are great artists yet a lot of them also are great machinist / engineers / inventors. Heck I can’t even draw a stick figure let alone design on! :)

Thanks, Brad, for sharing a wonderful story and being so honest and forthright in your praise. You put a smile on my face! :)

Those Lochsa's just rose up yet another notch in my approval rating! ;)

Beautiful pics Brad, many thanks. Scott's craftsmanship and design is stunning.

I have a question, actually 2.

Firstly, is that the shape of thumbstud that all the future Lochsa's will have now? The reason I ask is that I've seen, I think, 3 different thumbstud shapes.

Secondly, do you know if Scott will make other sizes in the near future. A smaller one would be perfect :)

Thanks again

Great story Brad. I have 4 of Scott's fixed blades and I'm waiting
on a #6 Lochsa. Your right about them being works of beauty!!

Jsun,

I've settled down on the design of the thumb stud to the current one shown here. It, as well as the pin and screw, are now standard on all Lochsa Folders. Older Lochsa Folders can also be change out if one wanted to. Call for pricing and turnaround time.

I will be coming out with a small version Lochsa but do not have any time frame yet. It will run in a 3" or so blade size range. If interested, please email and I'll set you on a list.

Brad,

You are very welcome. Thank you for all the help and support.

Scott

Fun thread Brad.., and a great looking knife Scott :).., thanks for sharing...

Count me in on:

ONE small clipless Lochsa.

Mail SENT!

RENT... who needs rent when you can wield titanium love???

I'm looking forward to the small, but think it will be a while before Scott catches up on the orders for the large as it is. :p

I love the look of the stud and the new pin, but am wondering if Scott's going to have to send out a special tool with each knife for maintenance?

James,
I'm not 100% positive but I'm pretty sure Scott is going to include the tool to remove and install the new pin. (I wonder if I could pre-order #2 small Lochsa ??)

I did, looks nice! From the pictures the points of the star appear to be curved down to the side of the handles so the points are not sharp to the touch?

Dandy knife, Jack glad you like that sheath, the knife fits pretty well inside and retains the knife securely too.

Gary,
You are right the points of the stars are rounded down so they are smooth to the touch.

Brad

Thanks for the great pictures. The Lochsa is one of my favorite folder designs and this one is an excellent example.

I'm not sure if anybody heard, that Scott's Lochsa folder won the award for bet tactical folder at the Vegas show this past weekend!! I do believe the folder that won had a Damascus blade, maybe we can get Scott to show us a pic. (I'll try a little arm-twisting with him and see if it works.):)
