One of the great pleasures for me and many others at the CT Gathering was meeting and seeing the awesome work of Mr. Greg Haugh, of Lone Rider Custom Grips in CT (http://www.loneridercustomgrips.com). I asked him to make a maroon linen micarta handle for my Simonich Kanji Kit Knife, A2 steel, which was a gift to me from Rob and the Hoods. It is some of the most awesome handle work I have seen and HELD. It is contoured with a perfect palm swell but the scales aren't too thick.:thumbup::thumbup:

Here are a couple teaser shots. Let me know if you want to see more....

Stunning

I was drooling over his stuff at the gathering, like individual works of art.

Yes, more pics. Love that knife :D

The knife was a kit? More info?

As for the scales - I am certainly liking those! They look like wood - but have the strength of micarta! COOL!

TF, back in the early 2000s, Rob Simonich made the Kanji knives -- mostly out of Talonite. He also made some in A2. However, he additionally did a rare, small run of Kanji kit-knives on A2 for Hoodlums over at Ron & Karen Hood's forum. He and the Hoods gave this one to me. It was co-designed by Ron. Here's some info:

Since Rob's passing in a truck accident in 2004 in Montana, I've been meaning to finish the knife, and I wanted to do justice to Rob's work. He was a close friend. Hence, only the best grips. When I saw Greg's work, I knew I'd found the right guy.

Now I have to buff out the rest of the scratches. Greg buffed out the remaining grind marks. I've been using this knife for a few years with rawhide wrapped grips. Here it was prior to Greg's work:

I'm going to take some better pix tonight and will get them online here. Now to decide on a sheathmaker.

As expected from Greg, it looks awesome. A wonderful tribute to Rob's work Brian. Bring it with you whenever you come by the shop. I'd love to handle one of Rob's knives.
