I just placed my first order with Ernie Grospitch at erniesknives.com for stencils to mark my knives. I cant say enough good things about the process. I had basicaly no clue what I wanted other than just my name and location. Ernie sent me about 3 different versions before I was finaly happy with it. I would and will be recomending him to anyone who is looking for stencils.

here's what we came up with

I cant wait untill it gets here so I can start marking my blades

That looks very nice. I need to send off a design and get going as well on getting a stencil from Ernie

I agree, very nice and clean. You may drop the location eventually, that's what I did.
Now you need to change your user name here to your real name. ;)

Don't be surprised if it shows up today...Fastest shipping ever, and will add another +1 about Ernie being a great guy to deal with

Hi guys. my stencils finaly arrived today. :) One quick question. Having never used or even seen this kind of stencils before, the stencil material is dark blue but the lettering is yellow. is this a film or layer that needs to be removed somehow? does the etcher etch through the yellow?

The yellow part is a very fine mesh. This allows the etching fluid to get to the steel. You should just need to cut/trim around the logo to fit the area you want (leave plenty of stencil material as a surround to avoid any fluid hitting the blade where you don't what it), then tape it down and go to work. Try it out on some scrap with your etcher so you can figure out the cycles/etch times that work best for you.

Heres the results of my trials. I did these test marks on a blade I messed up, tried to re-profile but it just wasnt saveable. There are 2 marks in the pic one just etched (could not get it to photograph very well) the bottom one is etched then marked.

Looking good! It's hard to tell from the picture, but you might want to make your mark deeper (longer etch). If it is too shallow, the black will rub right out of the etch with use. I try to make mine deep enough so that even if all of the black is gone, the etched mark is still clearly visible.
