My new Mikro Canadian is kinda sticky.

Hey everyone,

I just bought a beautiful burgundy canvas micarta Mikro Canadian II with hollow pins from DLT. It's an incredible small fixed blade. I just love it.

Thing is, just the other day I noticed the micarta felt a bit tacky. It's kinda an odd feeling that my other micarta knives don't have. It's literally slightly sticky. Nothing collects on it. I tried washing it with some denatured alcohol and then oiling it, which made it look nice and rich but didn't help the tackiness.

Overall, it doesn't seem to be a problem. In fact, the knife feels a little more grippy against my hand. But I just wonder if something is wrong with the resin in the micarta.

What do you think it is? Any way to get rid of it?

You might want to try MEK (Methyl Ethyl Keytone) followed up with a fine sanding.

I could be just residual buffing compound. They finish em off with a buffer to give em that nice shine and smooth finish. I suspect with a little carry and use you won't notice it anymore.

Hit it with some 2000 grit sandpaper if it really bugs you, but I think smcclown05 above hit it on the head, carry and use will take care of your problem.

Doubt the Micarta is bad. BRK finishes to 600 then buffs and waxes. I would just use it and it will go away. I wouldn't put solvents on it.

Sounds good. It's not very annoying so I'm totally fine just letting it run its course.

BTW, does anyone make nice leather pocket sheaths that are thinner than the KSF ones? These things are quite bulky for such small knives. Or maybe someone makes kydex sheaths for Mikros?

Thanks everyone!
