I wanted a blade style like this, so I was very pleased when I recieved this knife! Nice and slim.

I'm not used to the lockback, I like liner locks because I can easily close the one handed. You guys have any ideas to help me close this knife one handed? Thanks.

There are a lot of videos on YouTube showing different ways to open and close Spydercos.

I personally put my index finger on the handle very close to the front end, then push the backlock with my thumb and flick my wrist forward. This moves the blade, but the area just below the blade hits my index finger. Then I either move my index or thumb up to the hole and close it.

YouTube! Great idea, I forgot about that. Thanks.
I have been trying your way, it's not to bad. My knife seems to have a pretty good hump so it takes quite a hard flick.

I reverse the knife so the edge is towards me, use my middle finger to disengage the lock, then use my thumb on the thumbhole to partially close the blade. I then turn it back to the forward position to shut it the rest of the way. It ends up doing a full 360 during the process.

kodiak,
Congrats on your new knife. It is one of my favorites. IMHO Persians are one of the most beautiful Spydercos made ever. Also, they have great ergos and slicing abilities.
I never had a problem to close it one handed. I do this pretty much like chipped, except I do not do flicks.
1.I depress lock with my thumb,
2. move blade with my index finger, so I do not have to hold my thumb on the lock,
3 regrip the knife, holding handle on the sides and close blade with index finger.
I hope it will help.
Good luck

I used to just depress the lock and push the blade closed by pushing the spine on my pant leg.

This can be an iffy one. Personally I would never try any closure that requires pushing against another body part. Any slight miscalculation due to stress or hurry can be a disaster.

I have a friend who stabbed a knife over an inch into his thigh closing it like described. It required an ER visit and stitches as a result. He was very familiar with folding knives, handling tens of them every day so it was not a novice thing either.

Learn closing manipulations that require hands only, IMO.

If you put your finger in the primary index finger position for the four finger grip, the unsharpened back of the blade impacts your index finger not the sharp edge. Most all of my designs that allow for the user to choke up on the blade have this feature. This aspect allows for many different means of closing...Take Care...Ed

bh49: I am experimenting closing the knife as you describe. I have been practicing this in the last few days. It is slow for me right now but it offers the most control. I like that.

Ed Schempp: This is by far the most intriguing blade style I've ever had in a folder. This will be my EDC for years to come. The craftsmanship and lines on this knife are exquisite. Thank you so much for posting in my thread! I will try more opening technics as your blade style opens up many possibilities! Thank you.

I have a persian and it is much stiffer in closing then my caly 3 carbon fiber, The caly i can depress the back lock and then snap my wrist with the blade closing half way and my finger touching the back unsharpened part of the blade, i then can re-position my hand and close it with one hand, this method works with my other spyderco back locks but not with my mini persian which feels like there is a detent in it's mechanism

I agree! It deinetly closes harder than most other Spydies I've had. There is an extra hump somewhere.

I press the lockbar with the thumb while holding the handle with three fingers, my index being in the Spyderhole, which gives you better control than just pushing the spine. As my index finger closes the blade, I slowly rotate the handle in my hand. By the time the blade is at a 90 degree angle with the handle, the back of the handle is laying flat in my palm and I remove my three fingers from the path of the blade.
I trust this technique only because keeping my index finger in the spyder hole lets me control how fast the blade closes and allows me to remove my fingers in time. I would not do this with a thumbstud or just pushing the blade closed by the spine.

The Mini Persian is an excellent Spydie! I love mine so much, it's safely tucked away as a safe queen.
I definitely need to get another to carry around. The large Persian is one I'd really like to get though. Congrats on a great knife!

Hey Lorenzo. This is the exact way I am practicing closing the blade. It's a bit slow, takes a bit more concentration than I like to use when closing a knife. However, it seems to be the best option. I hope I get better with practice.

Thanks amen74! I really love the feel of this knife, particulary the blade shape. I, also, origanaly wanted the fullsize Persian. I've never held a Persian but I do feel the Mini Persian is the better EDC for me. A new Mini can be readily had for $100.00. I suggest you take it out of your safe and carry it this week.:D
