Well with a little help from the crew here, I've put together what I think is a pretty good little belt kit, let me know what you think. I've got an AMK ten essentials Leader RT in a US GI surplus canteen holder. To that I've added extra benadryl, Iodine water purification tabs, a Gerber Hinderer Rescue, A Gerber Suspension multi-tool so that I've got some sawing capacity, cylume sticks and a small LED flashlight. The Ten Essentials kit itself contains a spare compass, whistle, iodine packets, a mini wound treatment style first aid kit with trauma shears, rubber gloves and medical tape, as well as an irrigation syringe and space blanket. While I don't have a fixed blade in this kit I usually do have one on my belt or in my larger backpack. The only thing I'm thinking of adding is a snakebit kit since I currently live in the south. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Did I miss a way to get a fire going? ferro rod would be the best choice, but make sure you can use one before including it.

lagarto, Im not sure this opinion is shared by alot of the folks here but after a space blanket, the second thing I pack is a tube tent, you can buy one for around 5 bucks at the sporting goods store. It takes up alot less room than a tarp, and I have found it to be a great benefit in wind, snow and rain, when I want to get something over my head quick. I have actually used my tube tents more often than my space blankets. And Ive used space blankets tons of times. Now I know a tube tent is considered inferior to a tarp but I feel it has a special, very utilitarian niche to fill and I frankly would never head out to the big woods without one. Knife, space blanket, tube tent, lighter, compass(dont get lost, stay found), metal cup, whistle......but you can see for me the tube tent is up there. The thing about a tarp versus tube tent, is that a tarp is better if you have it with you, but a tube tent you WILL have with you, also it is very rapid to errect if a storm breaks on you suddenly.

Fonly,
You're right I forgot to mention that. The kit has a lighter and waterproof matches. The ferro rod is usually in the sheath pocket of my fixed blade. Shipwreck, I haven't heard of those, I will have to look into that. Thanks. As you can see, space is sort of limited. I didn't get the fixed blade in the picture because those tend to rotate, but it's anything from a sawbacked Buck 119 to a CR Aviator or Ranger Knives RD 7, or Benchmade CSK. I apologize in advance for the pic, it's a new camera and I'm still getting used to it.

hey shipwreck,

I agree that a tube tent is a much better alternative than a space blanket, providing you carry it with you. One other alternative is this:
