My new Moore Maker slipjoint, my new belt carry EDC??.

been wanting to try a moore maker myself-but 1 dog cost 700 $ last month to fix and now the other one is limping with a swollen leg -

so no new knives

How about a picture of the 112 with the new MM Slippie? I just want to see the size diff.

Bungwrench,
After re-reading your post subsequent to submitting the last pics I realized you wanted the 112 comparisons with the MM, and not the 110.. OOps, sorry my bad. Anyway, here you go..

Sunny, that is a good looking handful of knife! I'm still not a big sowbelly type, but that looks like it should do one heck of a job, or several jobs since you have plenty of tools to choose from. The yellow bone is purdy, especially with the light to dark transitions. The punch is a nice touch too.

How long is the master blade in comparison to what you usually pack on your hip? Enough to be noticeable with what you use it for?

Naturally, we want to hear how it's working for you after you've packed it awhile.

Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

Added: I just saw the photos after I posted this. Not too much difference between the blades. The master sowbelly blade should do just about anything the 112 would do.

sunnyd,

Thank you very much. That's a good size slippy. I was looking at them today at cumberlandknifeworks. I didn't realize that it is a 3 layer backspring. That's a very stout knife. I may have to pick one up. I really like the whittlers too though. Thanks for the pictures. They've helped.

Bungwrench,
You are quite welcome. I am glad to have been of some assistance to you.

Amos Iron Wolf,
You bring up some good points with your comments and questions here my friend.. I have come to realize that the Sowbelly is still after all a pocketknife by definition and cannot really handle the most hardiest of chores that a good lock blade like the Buck 110 or even the 112 can on the job. However, having said that, the remaining shall we say 96% of the weekly chores are accomplished just fine with the Sowbelly. This was after all an experiment for me to see if I really needed the backbone of such a hardy knife as the 112 or the 110 or even a fixed blade knife that I used to carry back before the lockbacks.

I found that with in the first week or so I threw the 110 into the pick-up truck in the morning to make sure I had it in case I needed it. Now the big upside's with the Moore Maker Sowbelly was the weight on the hip and five thinly ground blades of 1095 hi-carbon steel. I found that I really love those aspects of it. The Sowbelly may be a pocketknife by definition but, this ole' boy would not carry it in any of the regular pants pockets as the comfort level goes right out the window. Perhaps a cell phone leg pocket in a buckaroo would be adequate for a comfortable carry option, but why go to all that trouble since it is just as easy to belt sheath it on my right hip, which is also far more accessible in that position. I love the multi-blade set up this three back spring MM has to offer. The punch blade has come in handy on multiple occasions as well as all the other blades. Although as with most slippy's, one tends to go to the main blade first. I find I have to stop myself and take a second to choose the very best blade for the task at hand. Which I must confess I find rather fun and rewarding somehow.:)

The jury is still out on my little change up experiment though. I tend to believe that I will continue the current mode of carry for a while as I am satisfied for the most part with the situation the way it is as described above. Besides the patina on the 1095 hi-carbon steel is just starting to form on the main and spey blades and that leaves three more to go..:D

Heck, Sunny

Now I have a reason to come over to Texas...

That MM looks really great.

Great taste, as ever

Yep! That's the best part of a good knife, using it and all that goes with that. All the pretty in the world goes right out the window when it just isn't a pleasure to use. Using includes picking the tool for the job out of a selection of blades.

Keep us posted on how it does along the way.

Very sorry it hear that. That's just a rough thing. I'm gonna have to hug my own pooch for a while. Being seriously attached to our Andi, I feel for you and we'll be thinking of you.

Like that old saying, "The more I learn about people, the more I love my dog!" Yup.

rosconey2,
AAAHHHH NO, Damn it!. I'm so sorry, that sucks!. My prayers are being sent for you all right now. Please accept my condolences.

Blessings,
Anthony

Thanks Guyon and Lanza.. I appreciate your kind comments.. This just kicked back to me as email because my isp crapped out for over a week.

God Bless all here!

I purchased my first MM recently due to sunnyd's posts about them. Not the perfect fit and finish I would have liked, but a step up from basic Queens.Centered blade and good lock-up with no play. I'm pretty pleased with my Moore Maker Single blade trapper lock back aka-mountainman.I'm really liking that Sowbelly you posted about here, but can't find them listed anywhere. Are these a discontinued model?
