I have always liked the Otter Boxes and Pelican Boxes but had never put a survival kit together in one, until now. I ordered both an Otter Box 1000 and 2000 and made kits in each of them. For now though, all I have pics of is the survival kit in the Otter Box 2000. It really makes for a great survival kit, it's very strong and durable, comes in all different colors, and it's water proof (which is really great). I was pretty impressed with what I managed to fit inside the box, which turned out to be a decent little survival kit. Here's what I came up with:

Contents:
Otterbox 2000 survival kit
1 sewing kit

Nice. Those Otterboxes are great. Very durable, waterproof, and probably float - though I don't know that. The clear flavors let you see the contents as well. Good stuff.

Nice Kit!

I really like the 2000 model. I bought one a while back and made it an exclusive fire kit for wet situations.

I would really like to get the 1000 model. Seems like a great size.

Thanks for sharing.

Great post. I like the clear. You seem to have everything necessary. I'll have to get a box and copy you. Which do you like better, Otter or Pelican?

I like the otterboxes as well. Especially the clear ones

Nice kit.

I almost seem to like the Pelican a little more. They have a little more depth to them which allows you to carry more things in the same sized box. I'll most likely switch it over to one of the Pelicans. They also have more sizes to chose from and both Pelican and Otter are depth rated to about the same depth. I guess it's a personal preferance thing. Thanks for the remarks guys!

great kit, i just got a 1000 yesterday for a small pocket kit but after seeing this i may have to rethink it and go for the 2000.

Thanks a lot for this information. I like your kit. Any ideas for good places to find the otterbox?

Just run a search on google and you'll come up with quite a few places, and they are all pretty close in price. Knivesshipfree also carries the OtterBox 1000 and 2000 I think too.

is it safe having the lifeboat matches and striker all in the same baggie like that? I'd be concerned about starting a fire due to friction/jostling.

It looks like he is using the spare striker from the inside of the box of REI matches. It has a heavy plastic sleeve it fits into. If he still has that on it, everything should be fine. If not, well, he might have a problem one day. :)

Nice catch.

Hmm...I got a 2000 a couple weeks ago when I ordered batteries from the battery station.

This is a really good use for it. The case is awesome. Looks like you have a good list of things in there too.

The sleeve is still on the striker. Even if it wasn't I wouldn't worry to much about it, the matches and striker don't move around in bag at all.
