My new Otterbox survival kit

Cool kit. I have been thinking about getting a couple of Otter boxes to see if I like them better than my Pelican boxes. Have you used both? If so do you have a favorite?

I think it depends on what I am using it for and how small I want it. I know Pelican offers a lot of cases that are for guns, laptops, camera gear that I don't think otter offers. But I find the otters to be slimmer and less bubbly, I don't know how else to explain it but the lids on the small otter boxes close nice and flat where the lids on the pelicans are almost domed a bit. My pelican has a rubber lining, it was my camera case overseas so I wouldn't have to worry about it being damaged. Where I don't believe the otters are.

One thing to think about is that the Pelican boxes are not water proof they are water tight, their instructions say not to submerge. The Otter box is water proof to 100 feet. That being said I have used a Pelican 1050 box while canoeing and it has always kept everything dry. I also have the Otter box 1000 and 2000 and they seem to be very strong and durable. +1 for the Otterbox.

Cool kits....I like the clear version....
I have both as wellbut mine are both black from KSF 1K &2K with holder and work great..
I also have a 1K in yellow has fire kit only.

yeah, I use my pelican 110 or holding my little Cannon because I like the padding but for other apps I like the looks of the Otters

Thanks, that's an issue for me now. In the review of the Pelican 110 I did there were a few drops of water got in it after bouncing around in icy rapids for an hour...still pretty impressive but I'm wanting something that won't leak at all in relatively shallow depths.

I like the larger pelican cases but for smaller stuff I have stuck with otterbox and not been disappointed.

I have an extra 1000 laying around so I may steal your idea and play around a little. Thanks!

hmmm... do you think you could fit an Izula in there in case GOD FORBID you dont have a knife on you when you need this

I know I'll be trying mine in different kits and boxes when it gets here...then I may be ordering more of them....

Great kit, 333rm. I hope that you don't mind if I copy your idea (minus the handcuff key).:)

Nice job and great pics!!! You really make it nice and easy for another to put together a quality kit!

One comment would be to swap the Imodium for something more useful... I've always been of the opinion that Imodium = bad.

If my body wants to get stuff out, its for a good reason... Unless you are on a long flight or in a board meeting :D

Nice kit! those cases are great. i live near the water and thats all we use. great idea throwin the mini crow bar in there too

I was looking to get a second Otterbox 3000 to replace my old "woodsneeds" kit. My original was perfect for my 3-5 day first aid kit so why not another.
I ran up on a Plano box that had roughly the same dimensions as my OB3K and is still crushproof & waterproof with a pressure release built into the latch.
It is about $8.00 - $12.00 less than the Otter boxes on average.
I paid $14.95 for this one.
Plano Guide Series 1425-00 (clear with yellow hi-vis insert)
Dimensions: 7.75" x 5.5" x 2.3" for this particular box.
It has a soft (what they call TPR) lining in it so it won't scar up your phone and an extra piece to wrap around or lay over your scratchable stuff.

The Izula is too big, but Bark River makes a knife called the PSK and it was design specificly to fit into a Otter Box 2000. Good little knife too:thumbup:

By the way- Thanks for posting 333rm. I will be using this and the plethora of PSKs by TTD as a launch pad for my own kit.

Thanks for the comments ya'll! I contacted Pelican and asked them about the water proofing on their boxes and they said that they ARE waterproof to around 50-60 feet. I've never had any troubles with either one, they both are great boxes! Knivesshipfree sells leather holsters for the Otter 1000 and 2000 which make them pretty portable and handy. If you get one of the larger Otter or Pelican cases you could make a pretty good emergency kit for your truck or car that's waterproof and really tough.
