My new pack knife, wha'cha think?

Hey guys- So I've had a couple catastrophic failures in the shop lately, so I needed something simple and easy to finish during down time (you know, while orders are tempering, after 11pm, etc.) to decrompress.

Angi and I go out in the woods a lot, and I wanted something to throw in the pack, but could also be sent to deer camp, the top desk drawer, whatever. :)

So this is what I drew up... simple, small, fairly pointy--- thinly ground O1 at 60Rc, built in finger guard (no, this does NOT count as an integral! ;) ), Cocobolo scales, Corby bolts, and an 8oz leather pouch sheath. It's hard to see in the pics, but I did round out the edges of the little guard, so it is finger friendly. ;)

Any thoughts??? :)

Nice little utility Nick, something i would carry daily :) You should send me one similar for..ummm....testing? Hahaha

Nice!! That's the design we were dealing with in the shop, right? It looks really nice with handles on it. Great blade.

I suppose this is the inevitable result from a man who spends his time perfecting the process on much larger, more complex, more demanding pieces. When you build something like this, so "simple" by comparison, it just looks so effortless and spot-on.

And.... it still looks like a Wheeler.

Looks like a great knife. Probably a little small for my meat hooks but you never know till you hold it in hand (hint, hint...)

If you weren't going to use it as an EDC or pack knife it would probably make a great first knife (or first "real" knife) for a teenager just starting to hunt.

Love it. To me that is the perfect size for an EDC. Most of the KSO I cobble together are this size, and it seems to be what I reach for on my way out the door everyday.

Another outstanding job!

I like it. I get more orders for knives about that size than anything else, probably because they're so handy and versatile.

Looks great.

Reminds me of Corbet Sigman back in the day.

Looks like a nice little multi-purpose utility knife Nick.

Now about those hands, you have to find a hand model or wear gloves like me. ;)

If it feels as good as it looks then that is a winner ~~ really like the idea of the Guard and the size of the knife.* Thanks for showing us what is more or less called perfection.

Looks like you're onto developing quite a line of trail knives; first a plain frame one, now this sweet step up...

Man, Phil! You really pay attention! :)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. :)

Criticism or thoughts are welcome though.

I agree this one would be small for a guy with big hands. Mine are pretty average, wear an xl glove--- but I'm not sure because I showed it to my Dad who's hands are much bigger than mine, and he wanted to keep it to try on an Elk this year.

Corbet Sigman? Wow, that's a huge compliment! I have a lot of older knife publications and I always loved his work. The first knife I made for my Dad, was inspired by one of Corbet's hunters. :)

Patrice- Angi offered to hold the knife for me, I probably should have taken her up on that! LOL :D

Jon- REAL close.. this one is just a little smaller and with no choil. Good eye my friend!

BigBlue- Dang, that really made my day- THANK YOU :)

That's right purty Nick. I really like cocobolo, and that's a nice piece that you used. And Corbet Sigman is one of the all time greats in my opinion.
