So in the town I live in, there's a few annual events where the docks are reserved to individuals or organizations selling handmade items, food, toys or books for an afternoon, and one of them was yesterday. I don't know if I should call it a town fair. Anyway, this guy comes there every time, and he sells handmade leather products and forged scandi knives. I took a crappy pic of him and his stuff with my phone.

Cellphone cases, keychains, fly swatters, rifle and pistol holsters, knife sheaths, bags, hats, belts and ammo cases, he had pretty much everything you can make out of leather.
Anyway, I bought one of his knives for 90 euros last summer. I got a discount on it because it had a tiny crack on the handle, and it is the best fixed blade I have, hands down.
This year, I bought another one of his knives, a beautiful scandi with the handle stained red and a mirror polished blade for 120 euros, and he, being a generous guy, gave me a Lauri 95 carbon steel blade for free.

Ever since I got my first knife from him, me and my stepdad have had an argument over whether the guy was Heikki Roselli. He even thought that Roselli made every single knife he sold by himself. This time, I remember to ask for his business card. Turns out the guy is Heimo Rasimäki, and he made the knife that won second place at Kauhava knife and handicraft festival's international knifemaking competition. He had the knife with him, but I didn't remember to take a picture of it. Here's a pic of it I found on the internet.

And first place at Fiskars knifemaking competition with this knife:

And here are the HR knives that I have.

Yes, I still have the price tag on the new knife.

I really don't care about the numbers of these knives, and neither does old Heimo. I know that he made absolutely everything on the knives from the blade to HT, handle and sheath. Both of my knives have curly birch handles with birch bark spacers on one, brass bolsters and caps, hand-forged blades and, obviously, dyed leather sheaths. He uses the dye he uses for the sheaths for the handles as well and the finish on the new knife almost looks 3D. The steel is probably just spring steel, but it holds a damn good edge and becomes razor sharp again with just around 10 strokes on a fine stone.
He's not really near me, he lives some hundreds of miles away from this town but like I said, he comes here every summer and I buy a knife from him every time.
The larger knife is actually great for batoning.

Those are beautiful, and forged blades at that price are a bargain, especially from a master.

Around 170 dollars. He doesn't have a website, if you're looking to buy some of his stuff.

I don't have a compact camera and I only really use the knives for EDC and batoning firewood for the sauna and grill. I'll see if I'm going to remember to borrow my stepdad's camera if I go boating.
If you do want to buy some stuff from Heimo, I have his phone number. I could call him and ask for his email for you.

Nice knives!

I think I have seen the guy in Helsinki on the pier selling the staff to tourists. Did not think he made the knives himself.
