I wanted a smaller knife to use for quick small tasks on the trail or maybe even edc. So I made this one. There are several influences along with my own preferences and ideas all incorporated in this design. This is a very small but stout knife. Quite comfortable to hold and use. This thing takes and keeps a very sharp edge. I used a full convex grind and desert ironwood for handles with large mosaic pins. I think this is a nice little knife and I wanted to share it with you guys. Comments welcome.

Very nice work! I like those mosaics with the desert ironwood. Whats the steel and thickness on it?

That thing is AWESOME!

Love it!

I have planned on making something similar, now I HAVE to do it.

Thought about using a saw blade for the blade blank.

Really superb handle: size is spot on and the color of the wood is awesome! Blade looks perfect. I'm really fond of spear-points.

That looks great! Sign me up for one if you decide to whip up a batch!

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I made this out of a sawblade from a fish processing plant. I know the knife is not stainless but it is not easy to stain. It was a little harder to grind than some knives I've done before. It was somewhat difficult to get an edge on but once I did, it holds the edge really well. I've cut lots of cardboard and a bunch of hickory shavings and was very impressed with the edge holding. It doesn't take too long to strop it back up either. I talked with a machinist friend of mine and between similar blades he has heard of and how the steel acted when grinding and sharpening and how it holds an edge, our preliminary guess is maybe D-2. Who knows? The steel was intended for cutting tools. It's a great little knife anyway.

I have more of the saw blades so there may be one or two of these popping up for sale in the very near future.

Specs:

1/8" thick
full convex grind
2" blade
4 3/8" overall
handles are just over 3/4" thick at the back and taper down to 1/2" at the front of the scales
