I debated on where to post this and felt that here was more fitting since in other places people won't know what this is. Mods, if you think otherwise please feel free to move it. As a new slip joint maker I missed the boat on all of the stiddy's on ebay and ones that were custom made by vendors on this site so I have been struggling with using a little $15 anvil with a weighted base to pin my knives together.
Just last month I had the chance to run power to my Harig surface grinder which was the last tool I needed to build my stiddy. My design is very similar to the one made by GLWJ years ago but in three pieces instead of two. I am pretty excited to have this little guy done. Although my knives often (not always) have a modern style to them, I have incredible respect and admiration for the knives of old that mine are patterned after. Having a stiddy, at least in my mind, helped me to feel more a part of the tradition of slip joint making. I still intend to scour the bay in hopes of finding an old one. Again, just one of those things that I think would be cool to have and use.
Here is my Harig SG with the stiddy. And before I get too much crap for my dinged up mag chuck, I didn't do it. It came with the grinder and works fine for now.
Here is the old and the new, all shiny but not for long.
Here's a knife pic to keep things legit.
Thanks for looking everyone!
