My New Talon--small but mighty

One of the drawbacks in living in the midwest is there is not a fully stocked knife shop in town. Even when the gun shows come there are knives but only selected models. So you wind up buying knifes without the benefit of handling them and checking the heft and weight. Sometimes when you make a trade or buy one from a forumite or internet dealer and you get a knife in and it is a disappointment and remains a "bagger" and quickly goes back up on the "boards". Sometimes you are really genuinely and pleasantly surprised. This was the case with my new Talon.

With no other resource other than the trade magazines and the Blade forums, I compiled enough information to make an informed decision. I wanted a talonite blade for the non rust factor and the non stain factor. The sharpness was also a criteria. (besides that it just sounded neat as hell).

Off I go and make arrangements for one (thanks Sid), I had to wait a little longer as my supplier was in training. I just got it today (at noon on lunch hour) and rushed to open it. Initially, I was disappointed in the size. Yep, I went back over my notes and looked and everybody quoted the stats on size. (but nobody ever said-hey this is smaller than you realize). I was not daunted, I wanted talonite and decided to expand my initial opinion.

After playing with this knife for the better part of a couple of hours, it is everything I had hoped it would be! The size will fool you as this blade will fool you.

I consider this knife worthy of the retail asking price. So if you are teetering on looking at this knife (possibly price) or even (size), get beyond it, buy it, and use it. The knife is really worth it!!!! When in the field this will be my first reach [over my sebenza]. Thanks Will and Bob, I think the collaboration was well worth it!

TANGUS, I too am very pleased with my Talon, in fact I now carry it daily as a neck knife. I know that some think it is too heavy for a neck knife but if you try it I bet you will like it. With the Tek Loc removed and one extra chicago screw at the top to tighten it a little more, the knife lies very flat and the weight does not seem to be felt at all.
As far as I am concerned this knife is my idea of an all-american puukko....always with you and ready for just about any kind of cutting.
