I've spent so much time trying to decide on the Pioneer and Farmer. I like the idea of the added wood saw, but really like the thinner profile. I got tired of spending so much time comparing both products, that I ordered each. Not only did I order each, I ordered (2) of each. One of each will stay boxed and untouched and the others will be used for me to decide which one will replace my Alox Cadet as an EDC.

I should have them sometime this upcoming week. I can't wait.

You are in the groove, brother. Buying 4 instead of 1 demonstrates that you are out there on the far frontier of SAK addiction. Well done.

OP, your agonizing sounds exactly like my experience. However, your solution was more elegant than mine. I could only get one knife, so I FINALLY opted for the Alox Pioneer as a 'gentleman's' thin folder. While I'm really liking it, now that I actually have one in hand, I can see where the Alox Farmer would have been a viable option after all (still thin / light enough for pocket carry).

The Farmer's saw would have been nice on forest walks with my young grandsons. All is not lost, though. I can either switch out the Pioneer for a larger SAK with saw (model?) which I already own, or just go after the Alox Farmer, too, a little later.

Enjoy your new squad of knives!

This was my experience as well. I went with the Pioneer because I wanted something thin yet beefier than the typical sak. However I soon found that the farmer only added a miniscule amount of thickness therefore it was still thin and that added thickness just improved ergos. Win-win!

The Farmer is hands down my favorite model.

My Farmer arrived today. Definitely won't be an EDC for me. I'm hoping the Pioneer I have coming with the slimmer and lighter profile will be ideal for me to replace my Cadet for EDC.

Congrats on the new SAK's, both are worth their weight in gold IMO.

I 've EDC'ed a Pioneer for most of the last 15 years. A few of those years I used a Farmer instead, but went back to the Pioneer because it was thinner and lighter, and has all the tools I use often, and nothing I don't.

A few years ago I added a Spyderco. I now have a bunch of Spydies I rotate, but the Pioneer is still a constant companion:

Ok Brock...please, you must tell me which spyderco that is?

Still waiting on my Pioneer. Definitely not able to EDC this Farmer. It will be going into my center console of the pick-up.

oh i dunno, i use this set up. Hook the big biner to one of belt loops and it hangs in my pocket without sitting in the bottom being all potato-like
*shrugs* works for me, and may be worth a look for you

There are a ton of varieties....I could never decide so I'll stick with what I know..stogies.

I do have one of my late uncle's old Viking pipes but it's still new.
