For someone like me, a huge fan of ZT and a huge fan of Emerson this knife was created by a dream team. It has the superb craftsmanship and flawless fit and finish of ZT. And it has the amazing ergonomics along with a beautifully functional design that could only come from the mind of Ernest Emerson.
This knife is exceptionally smooth right out of the box which is typical of ZT from my experience. It's the smoothest knife I've ever felt with washers.
The blade is very much like an Emerson besides being much wider than most Emerson's, having a flat grind with a v ground edge instead of a saber grind with a chisel ground edge, and the blade is also significantly thicker.
Size and weight is pretty typical for most ZT's and most of the regular sized Emerson's being at around 6 ounces. The overall length of the knife is slightly larger than the 0550, but slightly smaller than the 0560. It carries very well in pocket I hardly notice it's on me. The clip is fantastic in that it is basically an Emerson clip which in my opinion is the best in the business. It's very nice to have an Emerson design that isn't going to shred my pants pockets.
The lock up on the knife is perfect for me with the lock bar being at about 40% over with no play in the blade up and down or side to side.
The G10 on this knife doesn't have the best grip in the world those of you familiar with any knives made by KAI then this is typical of that. It's worlds apart from the super aggressive G10 that Emerson offers. I really like the pattern cut out in the G10 it is really cool looking. The titanium frame lock has a very nice stone wash on it which is kind of hard to see in any of the pictures online. It also features a stainless steel lock bar insert that extends internally to stop it from going too far left. I think this is really cool, but I feel like it's just to make it somewhat idiot proof. Most experienced knife people would never bend a lock bar out past the frame.
This knife is very easy to open and close mostly in part to the lock bar having the perfect tension and it being very easy on the thumb.
And last, but not least the famous Emerson Wave feature. It's extremely easy to catch it on your pocket because it has a nice amount of hook to it similar to the Gentleman Jim. It comes out faster than any other wave that I've experienced thus far because of the aforementioned silky smoothness of the washers.
Just wanted to share my thoughts on this bad boy because it just recently became available. They are in stock at gpknives.com if anyone is interested.
Thanks for the read guys here are a couple pictures!
