My new ZT0300 pics and impressions

Got mine in today. Overall it's great. Very smooth with tight lockup. The framelock is easily opened with one hand. Assisted opening is quick and smooth.
Some slight horizontal play, but no vertical play.

Personally it's not too big to carry. However I would rather carry something a little smaller and lighter like my large Sebenza or Endura. I'll give it a 9/10

try messing with the piviot bolt. will prob fix the horz play. prob just wasn't tightened enough.

Glad you like yours. Mine had no hint of any kind of blade play so tightening the pivot like ar0maticdecay suggested should resolve this.

As far as size, still a bit too big for MY EDC but I know others have no problem with its size and heft for EDC needs. I am like you and prefer a smaller and lighter EDC knife. The Endura is actually a longer blade and handle, but just has thinner handle and narrower blade. I'd use the Endura for EDC before the 300 due to its slender profile. Fits in the pocket easier.

Just like too add a few more notes about the 300:
  • The thumb studs are very comfortable to use, quite beefy and is my preferred opening method
  • The thumbstuds are also used as the blade stop against the handle so lockup is very solid and should make for a strong joint
  • There is an extra liner on the G-10 side combined with the titanium scale, adds a lot of strength. Not sure if the liner is Ti or steel
  • When the blade deploys and locks open with a solid "CLICK", my whole arm shakes. I love that!!!

You know, it's kind of funny that I think the 0300 should have been bigger...

Originally these things (the ZT knvies) were spect' to 4.25" blade length, which got me all excited. Then when they came out the blade length was pushed back to 3.75". The Spyderco Military almost dwarfs the 0300 in handle length, with about the same edge length.
I did get an 0200. While that knife is 3.75" on paper (measuring from the end of the handle to the tip of the blade) the edge goes down past the start of the handle, giving you a full 4" of edge. Plus the handle has room to spare (due to the extended thumb ramp).

Good lord! I don't think I would need a larger folder than the ZT0300/200. At 4" and beyond I'll use a fixed. ;)
