My newest Mistress - The FBM!

W-457,
No insinuations here, just an Honest question: You said you went through a number of Busse knives (16 or 17) trying to find your favorite one, and out of all of them the only one you ever used was your first. Sounds like you sold or traded the others without using them. So my question is, how do you find out if you like a knife - or a favorite one - without using them (a lot)? You went out and whacked at stuff right away with your new FBM, indicating the willingness to "unpretty" them and use them in addition to looking at them.
Oh, and AMS and TTKZ are pretty significantly different categories of knives with distinctly different uses. How does one compare an AMS to a TTKZ? Until that last bit about the chopping, I would have concluded that you were looking for your favorite knife to look good sitting on your shelf (and I was glad to see that last bit!). So, as I said, honest question(s), and without judgment. I just don't quite understand and am curious. Oh, lest I forget - NICE blade there!
Cheers!
Ken

Ken,

You cannot compare an AMS to the TTKZ, and I don't remember doing so. All I gave was a list of Busse knives that I have owned. They have ranged in size from the SAR3 up to the MOAB. I never said I was looking for one blade that would do everything. Only that out of all those the FBM was my favorite.

One does not have to "use" a knife to find out if they like it or not. Just by picking one up and handling it, I'm going to know right away if I like it...

Ok, fair enough. Thanks for the response. Recognizing that my inquiry could easily come off as critical in some way (I hate the fact that forum posts can be easily misunderstood due to lack of additional cues - email, same), I tried to take pains to be clear that I just did not understand. If I failed in that regard, sincere apologies. Clearly, I did not in fact understand. Thanks. You make a good point about what one can know just by picking a knife up. That is very true, indeed! It is the first test, I admit.
Enjoy that wonderful blade!
Cheers!

Agreed. By example, I scored an ASH-1 at Blade 07, but decided it just didn't feel right, and sold it off. You listed a MOAB. Haven't owned one, but have had a chance to hold and swing a few. Once again I must be the contrarian, as many folks swoon over the MOAB, but I thought it was heavy, ungainly, and poorly balanced. And ridiculously expensive. Did you feel the same?

OTOH, you are just flat out wrong about the Ruck Kensai. It is a great blade. ;)

Congrats on the new Mistress  It looks like you gave it quite the beating. . . . with many more to come I am sure!
