I'm buying a few gifts and want to pick up something for myself, preferably something I cant get anywhere else....just gave the gov't enough tax money to buy a new chopper, so I dont want to spend a ton, maybe $50-75...any ideas?

I've been eying this one for awhile now.

What type of knife you looking for?

The current "possibles" are:

Buck Harksook
AG Woodswalker
AG 3.0 Titanium Lockback (gave mine 3rd or 4th away AGAIN)

So, to be direct (sorry, its late) - a small easily carried fixed blade, or just about any folder that will carry in the pocket without having mom's call the cops on me. :D

The Hartsook is a great little knife, emphasis on the little. Should fly under anyone's radar (except a TSA agent's).

The Woodswalker would be my recommendation. True utility, looks enough like the small paring knife it is that moms won't notice. I like small lightweight neckers.

I didn't even look at the lockback, whatever, I've got too many in that class to care.

I guess I can stop eying this one.I just bought it. :D

Good luck with your search J:thumbup:

Esav is wise, he wants the mom's paying attention to him, not his knives :)

It that an issue for you?

I can imagine you being confused if you don't read the whole thread to see what I'm responding to.

I'd probably go with the new A.G. Russell Working Man's Two Blade Barlow. It's just so darn pretty. Perhaps it's the yellow bone, or the long nail pull, or that it's 1095 carbon steel hardened to 55-57rc. It's just pretty.

Hey JTR357. I have three of those Russell Beaks and believe me if you want a Factory Hawkbill, this is the goods. Beautiful fit finish and quality, and the price is unbelieveable thanks to the Chinese manufacture. Holds a good edge and easy to sharpen with a round DMT diafold. Great working blade, and in a pinch makes a nasty defense slasher. Always carry one in my back right pocket no matter what else I'm carrying daily. One in my car,and another in my Bug Out bag. Dynamite on boxes, cord, rope, wood, and makes fuzzy sticks like you wouldn't believe. Get one or two. You'll be glad you did!

Seconded. I have a Hartsook. It makes a fine letter opener, but otherwise I can't find a use for it. It's tiny and uncomfortable for anything that requires pressure.

Featherlite in ATS-34 is a contender, and the Woodswalker as well...

I have only handled the Hartsook once, and it was pretty darn tiny, but it has a high novelty factor.

The Featherlite will be next...I went with a Woodswalker...I've been on a quest for a useful pocket sized fixed blade, and the price was hard to contend with even if it doesnt work.

Thanks for the ideas guys...that Featherlite has my eye now for sure, and the Harksook opinions solidified what I already knew...too tiny...

On my list, the Working Mans Barlow (although I'm not especially fond of the yellow) and the "Ultimate Pen Knife with Bolsters and Scales".
(I already own most of the others being mentioned :D )

If someone was wanting to spend $75 at AG Russell as a first-time buyer, here's what I'd recommend:
Featherlite, $35
Hunters Scalpel, $20
Woodswalker with leather pocket sheath, $20
---------
TOTAL, $75

I just got a Hartsook in the mail, and I love the little guy. I don't think it's a purchase you'll regret, if that's the route you'll decide to take.

I wear mine on a ball chain hung off of my belt.

Bob, Boker makes the same knife with red jig bone handles and Boker Tree Brand stamped bolsters. Very sweet action. A.G.'s Working Man's Barlow is listed as made in Germany -- I think Boker is where it's made. They may have other handle treatments as well -- mine is the red bone.
