My Next Carbon Fiber Spydie?

Carbon fiber? Did someone mention carbon fiber? ;)

I feel better about my "problem" now man.

I can recommend the CF/ZDP Stretch without hesitation. Easily one of the best knives Spyderco has ever made (and that's saying a lot!).

I have the Gayle Bradley, sage 1, caly 3 cf and the M390 military on order.

Currently the caly 3 gets more pocket time than them all; that zdp sharpens up for me quite nicely!

I've got to say that there are a couple of pieces in that collection that I'm seriously jealous of. Obviously the price of the S90V Manix/Para has gone up enough that they're hard to get, but I didn't even know there was a CF Superhawk out there.

What would you say are the hardest two to replace in that collection? I know the Cat/Chicago (in original S30V CF) are really hard to find. What knife is below the Manix and above the Sage and what is that with the bolsters in the upper left-hand corner?

BTW, where is your CF Dragonfly SE and Chaparral to round out the collection? :D

We also shouldn't forget about the Walker. I've got one and it is very sweet. Love the single-sided liner - it keeps the weight down. And ZDP!

^^^^i was actually going to mention the Walker, but you beat me to it. The only CF Spydie I own is the GB and it is one badazz chunk of a knife!

Just got it in. I hate to say it, but it might not stay in the collection. I'm not 100% sure about it yet, but it just doesn't speak to me like the other Spydies that I know I'm going to keep as soon as I get them.

I'm going to give it a fair chance though first. The pocket clip definitely needs to be stripped (does anyone else hate a black pocket clip with satin hardware/blade?).

This guy's odds are improving.

When I first got it, it was dirty and had a little bit of surface-rust on it (inside the lock-bar, on the scales, and a little bit outside) and the pocket-clip was worn and scratched a little bit. But once I cleaned it up and got the dirt/rust out of it, I then stripped the pocket-clip (which looked better, but was still that bead-blasted Grey).

So I put the pocket-clip from my Para-2 on it and it looked much better, but the Para-2's pocket-clip doesn't have a lanyard-hole through it. So I got out the Dremmel, a felt-barb, and some polishing compound and Viola!

And with the original clip polished (but not too much - left it kind of at a Matte Finish to match the rest of the steel):

It's definitely growing on me.

What were your initial thoughts on the peel ply finish and ergos? Did they not speak to you either?

Well... The knife is still with me, so it's survived this far, but it just sort of feels like it's out of its place or something (as much as that doesn't make sense).

It looks like it would make a very elegant Gentleman's knife (which is the opposite of what the original Stretch was intended - I believe it was mainly targeted at the hunting crowd). In Carbon-fiber/full-liners form, it very much could be a very nice gentleman's knife, but the Peel-ply texture looks/feels like G10, and the pattern of the CF is not the same of the Golden-Colorado made Peel-ply knives (which I just found out in the other thread).

It is ergonomically a very good knife, save the shallow-choil (but I like 50/50 knives personally, so this probably isn't a big deal for everyone). I will say that the shallow choil is in fact jimped well enough that I'm not really concerned with my finger slipping forward of the choil and onto the edge. It feels very thin, and if you have average/smaller hands, then you can easily get all 4 fingers onto just the handle (without using the choil). If you have larger hands, then using the choil should accommodate all your fingers easily.

It opens/closes very easily - and the texture of the Peel-ply is not quite as grippy as G10 (even wimpy textured G10), but it is definitely not slick.

I think I'm going to polish the scales and see how it speaks to me then. With the polished clip/scales, it might survive.
