My next GEC. Help me choose!

I don't have a #78 but here's an ebony group shot I took a while back. I don't have all the knives pictured anymore but I also have new ones... Still, I hope it helps a bit since you already have a #23. From the top, #12 Powderhorn Jack, #15 Boy's Knife, #16 Canoe, #23 Pioneer, #33 Conductor, #53 Cuban Pen, #66 Jack, #68 White Owl, #72 Cody Jack, #85 Bullet Jack, #92 Eureka Jack.

I just added a 53 Cuban, big clip/pen ( 1/8" shorter than your 23)--nice in the pocket for a larger knife, but

my #15 harness jack SFO (spear/awl) is my work knife.

The choices get easier after you buy a dozen or so or two of the same model.

How effective do you find the awl?

That's all of the models! Thank you very much, I appreciate it. It makes everything so much easier.

You might also like GEC's #79 Montana Workhorse Whittler - 3 3/4" long closed. A very capable knife.

------------

I use it to ream out plastic holders on window blinds
punch holes in a leather belt
make a starter hole in wood
punch holes in sheet rock wall.
very effective

Since it came with a spearpoint, I really didn't need a pen secondary for a work knife.

I think the question is academic. Put the numbers in a hat and draw one and order it. The others will be ordered eventually. If you like any of us that enjoy traditional knives, you will have many knives you want and will buy. Bottom line, you will get all three in time. :)

There is no poor option here! All those patterns you mention will bring delight to the user, no doubt about that.

I think highly of the 85 as I favour a Swell End/Teardrop type knife. If you fancy a Spearpoint blade with Coping on a single spring then the 79 Workhorse could be worth investigating - I don't own this pattern and I've been after a Blackwood Northfield for ages, but I think it could be a satisfying carry.

I get the feeling you'll be back with more thoughts & questions when you've got this quandry sorted out:D:D:thumbup:

Regards, Will

#15 is my favorite with a #66/68 coming in 2nd. If your not a fan of wharncliffes and are looking for belly then I would go for the clip point. Spear points seem so mundane to me. IMO.

I haven't owned a 85 yet so can't help there. The 78 I had had a stiff pull and I have read that is common. I love the 15

But would also suggest the 81

I carry both often. The 15 in the front pocket and the 81 next to wallet in the back pocket.

Good luck deciding from all that is out there.

Awl.
I don't have a 15 HJ but I'm sure you can keep it sharp and it will work as awl and pen blade at the same time.

Ordered!

#15 Tidioute Single clip point blade with ebony covers. It's simplicity just spoke to me(does that make sense or am I going crazy?).

Thank you guys for all the info! I'll get a picture up in one of the other threads once it arrives! :p

Good choice. Makes total sense. I think you'll find the slimness off the single clip to feel real nice. Long pull or nail nick? Barehead or end cap? My favorite are the 2013 long pull clips on the barehead frames.
