Since whitetail season is coming I thought I would make a skinner
So a cup of coffee and a pencil, I came up with this

So off to the grinder with the buggy leaf spring

Now its time for the 1x42 to do its thing.

Interesting shape, do you plan on dropping the spine towards the tip after the grind or leaving it straight?

Its going to be straight, the finish will be something like this, the edge will taper from the line to the edge then the finger guard with antler scales

Neat shape. I've never seen a skinner with such a blunt tip. I think there might be a reason for that but you can let us know after you bag a buck!

It looks like pretty thick steel, you might want to take that grind a little further up for a skinner.

the blade is a 1/4" thick, This grinder grinds a real nice hollow grind, not sure if it will follow the blunt curve of the blade Ill just have to give it a try.
its a real sloooooow wet grinder so if its not able to follow no harm done.

Been working on #2 knife, my son came home and thought, that shape doesn't work and reground the tip.

It's a nice shape and will make a good knife. the next one, I will engrave, Don't touch! or I'll lock it up when I leave. either way will work

He did a nice job, its good to see some participation in my hobby.

Welcome to the subforum.

The second tip is better IMO. I've scrapped hides plenty of times and find that using a double handled hide scrapper is the way to go. Not to mention side loading on an acute edge meant for skinning might not be optimal.

Is that a finger groove at the front of the handle? Seems like it might be a little deep, but that's just me.

The finger groove will be flattened a bit and the handle, should be something like

scales and steel should be 1-1/8" thick
