Hello my name is Jake and I have been lurking the Traditional forum now for a month or more and so far I have pretty much lost all interest in what got me into knife collecting. I have a bunch of Kershaws, ZT's, Spydercos and all those other more modern knives but what got me looking at traditional's was trying to find a birth knife for my son that I could someday gift to him when he turns 18. I wanted to find a knife that was not just the same year he was born but as close to his actual birthday as possible which is Feb 28th, 2012. I found a post in this forum and people started reccomending GEC for knives that actually had born on dates. Come to find out GEC made the #66 Calf Roper in Blood Red Bone and Primitive Bone with that exact date on the COA Card. I found a Primitive Bone one after some searching and ordered it up right away and then last weekend I found the Blood Red Bone version on ebay for a very good deal and bought that one up too. It's been downhill every since and now I can't stop looking at traditional knives and I have a whole list of the ones that I want. Enough talking for now before I bore everybody to death but here is some eye candy.

Happy 1st Birthday to your boy! I'd say you picked two very nice knives to commemorate his birth.

Happy first birthday to your son!! Very nice knives as well :) Now you'll have to get yourself something to carry so that he can appreciate a knife like his dad's in 17 years... ;)

Great Birthday present. I didn't buy my girl her first knife until she was 2. ;)

That's awesome jigging on that Blood Red!

Congrats on finding those - both beautiful knives!
Great gifts for your son!

Happt 1st birthday to a very lucky boy, and welcome to Trad sir :)

Congrats to father and son alike. Both knives are beauties, but the Primitive Bone is fabulous. I have one myself and love it.
Yours is somewhat subdued, but still has tons of character in both the grain and coloration, a real beauty!

Thank you! Here are a couple more pictures. I'm thinking for me I want a #6 Pemberton in ebony, a #33 Conductor in ebony or Apple Red Jigged Bone and a #76 Outlaw Jack with the Yellow Rose Bone. Those are next on my list anyway.

With a Buck 309 Companion I recently bought but it will be going in for warranty work as it has tons of blade play.

Great looking slip joints there. Long pulls are my thing, and GEC does them right!

I have two GEC made Schrade branded #73 scout patterns for my boys when they get older. The 8 year old (almost) is so far from being able to open them, it is comical. I don't know when, if ever, his tiny little nails will be strong enough!

The long pulls should help, because they allow more nails into the pull!

Happy Birthday to your boy! And welcome to the Darkside! Bwahahahahahaha....! :D

Congratulations on your son's first birthday. A couple of wonderful choices.

You are quick. Those knives were made just yesterday.

And don't forget to add an #23, #85 , #81..................

Man I wish I had a knife that my old man handed down to me,great gesture Jake.
Congrats on finding them & happy birthday to your son.

Happy birthday to your son and great knives. Im sure he will enjoy them for a long time

Oh and welcome aboard :)

The calf-roper was also my first GEC and it still gets used along with its many brothers and sisters.
Trust me, this won't be your last GEC, or your last traditional slipjoint for that matter.
Welcome to a wonderful addiction and a great hobby to pass along to your son.
