This knife was a gift from my parents in 1973 at age 12. I still have the original black sheath, but recently purchased a brown sheath and replaced the Buck snap with a hand engraved, sterling silver snap.

This old Ranger has been on many, many trail rides... :)

Thanks for the pic, TAH. It is good to see a knife that is well looked after.

Thats a nice no dot TAH . Did you send that one in for a spa treatment ? DM

David,

This one has not been to the shop. The blade has some honest scratches on it that are not visible in the photograph. The handle is in very good condition and the lock up is still rock solid vertically and horizonally. As a kid, I guess I took care of my knives, because I was so proud of them. :)

Thanks to everyone for the compliments!

You better baby that thing. I reckon it only has about 30 or 40 more years left in her! ;)

I plan on living to 100, so 30 or 40 years is gonna be short. Can you give me another 10? :D

Hey if it looks like she wont quite make it that last 10 years, THEN you can send it in to the shop. :)

The knife looks great though!

Good looking 112 there! I've been registerd for some time but don't visit or post as often as other sites. Looked over the 112 data up top. I bought a 112 in the late 80's when I really was a park ranger, carried everyday. Did clip the tip off pretty good stripping some bark off of white ceder, sent it in to Buck and they put on a new blade, this was around winter/spring '93. Still have the black sheath and all. Just wondering what the value of such a 112 would be today? Don't plan on selling it or anything as the knife goes back a way with me and someday my son might just want to have it.

Good story, mjh. Not sure about the value of your 112, but if you feel the same as I do about mine, it is priceless. They're like old friends.

Thanks for the comments and welcome to the forum.

Yea, can't say the knife is priceless yet but I'd be not happy if I lost it....Hey where did yea get the brown sheath? I might carry mine a bit more these days with a brown sheath. Looked at the Buck website and they have a few brown sheaths but not one just for the 112, did you pick one up for another knife model that fits well?

Nice 112, Congrats on keeping it well all this time:thumbup:
I got my first 112/ first Buck at about the same age... Mine went to the bottom of the Bering Sea while in the Coast Guard...

Thanks for all the compliments everyone! :)

mjh,

I purchased the brown sheath on eBay a few years ago for 10 bucks. Back of the sheath is marked 112 Custom. It was light tan in color and had a very shiny top coat. I stripped the top coat, darkened it with some Neatsfoot Oil, removed the Buck logo snap, and replaced it with the Bohlin snap to give it a nice Western look.

These brown Buck sheaths pop up on eBay occasionally, so I don't think it would be that hard to find one in relatively short time. You might want to call Buck and see if they have anything in stock. Good luck with your search. The hunt to half the fun.

What did you use to strip the coating off that sheath?

I've got a few of those ugly things laying around that could use some work.

:)
