Howdy, Gents.

I thought I would post a few pics of my Spyderco Rescue. I bought this at The Atlanta Blade Show about 5(?) years ago for $25.00. I scooped it up since I knew that Spyderco knives were a bit more expensive than that. ;)

I used to work for Cutlery World and we sold every Spyderco within a few days of receiving our shipment. Why I did not purchase one when I worked there...I do not know. All that was on the market then were the steel models and I like 'em light, perhaps that it the reason....

Anyway, this model had the molded in pocket clip which broke and I had Spyderco put a metal clip on. They sharpened it too...that was at least 3-4 years ago.

I carry this one everyday and really enjoy it because of its light weight, thinness, and ease of operation. I have worked for law firms for over 13 years and there is always a certain reaction you get when you pull this one out...I had the sheep at my old firm trained and have a new job with a new firm....time to train a whole new flock!! ;)

Something about a liberal city like da ATL and "tools" like knives and firearms that don't mix. :jerkit:

Here she is, have not cleaned her up just for the photos! I am looking around for something similar (maybe) with a plain edge and a little smaller.

Suggestions anyone?

If you like them thin and light, try a Centofante 4. It is probably my favorite Spyderco of all time. I know it is one of there less expensive models but the more you carry and use it, the more you see what a great design it is. It is a thinking man's knife for sure.

It is also similar to the Rescue in several ways. The Rescue is a Sheepsfoot blade and the Cent 4 is a Wharncliff. They are both light and thin with lots of edge. The Cent 4 may be a bit stronger due to a nested steel liner that the Rescue lacks. The Cent is plain edge like you asked for. The Cent is only about $40-50 street. Most of the newer Spydercos are going to run more than that. Most of the newer ones are also heavier as well. The Cent 4 is one of the thinest and lightest knives of this size.

Great knife, I have a FRN clip that I broke the clip on after carrying it for 10 years, and now carry a modern rescue.

Maybe take a look at the Rescue JR, not a plain edge, but a little more pocketable and just as handy, my wife carries one and it does everything my full size does.

Otherwise, how about a Delica 4? Not a sheepsfoot, but with the stronger tip and a myriad of options, you can choose something that fits your style.

Hi Col. Cooper,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx for the interest and support.

The knives that come close are the current Rescues and Atlantic Salt.

Smaller are the smaller Rescues, Safety Salt & as mentioned, the Delica. The current Delica offers varieties in steels (VG-10, H1, ZDP-189) as well as handle materials and colors.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am not married to the sheepsfoot blade, still trying to decide.

My Rescue has been used to cut wires, PVC pipe, all types of yard brush/dirt, and lotsa tape/boxes/strapping over the years.....and I cannot tell it is any worse for the wear except a little exterior "character".

I will check out the models you gents were nice enough to suggest.
