My old Spyderco

It was a great selling knife and i dare say the thinking man's knife....the other 2 or 3 custom maker designs they did of that time were pure stabbers or "name" bragging rights or fashion statements......the lesser known designer of the AFCK along with known utility of the base design via Spyderco had those of us who wanted an actual functional KNIFE for knife work buying the AFCK...we could see we might actually get some use out of it for our money....and did.

This reminds me a lot of the nirvana.. ugh i had finally whittled down my knife needs to a really short list...

Digging the AFCK design as well. Wonderful ergos, and as for the balance, I'll let the pic do the talking..

Mine's a Mini but I've had a couple of the full-size ones over the years as well, both Axis and the M390 SHOT Show special. Still looking for an original-era full size 800. One day...one day. :)

My introduction to Benchmade, 2 AFCK's both bought new at the same time from a gunshow in the late 90's.
First is a very heavily used 812. My favorite benchmade by far. I used this one everyday for more than 15 years, mostly for stuff people here call abuse. I'll spare the gory details to shelter those.

Second is a very lightly used 800. After having to sharpen it several times doing the same things that didn't phaze the 812, I had no more use for it... so it's collected dust the last ~15 years. Someday I'll give it away to someone who doesn't know any better.

Can you show how liner lock is locked?

Can you show how liner lock is locked?

I'll have to take new pics, but can tell you the 812 moved to it's limit after about 10 years with up/down blade slop gradually getting worse afterwards, but still safely useable - for me. (Keep in mind there's very few people on this forum that use this type of knife like I do.... it literally got beat on, alot.) I thought new liners would make it lock up like new. They helped, with only a tiny bit of play remaining, but appears there's also wear with either the stop pin or blade. My bet is the pin. I'm working on a replacement, slowly.

The 800 is about like new, and for sure solid.
